I guess he loved working on He-Man, because Kevin Smith takes on another animated project.

Deadline| Kevin Smith Developing 'The Green Hornet' Animated Series

Smith wrote a screenplay for a Green Hornet movie back in 2004, which went unfilmed, but was later turned into a comic book. The set-up of this cartoon, the new Green Hornet being the son of the original, partnering with Kato's daughter, sounds very much like that screenplay. Because, why change a good idea?
Smith also co-wrote a Batman '66/The Green Hornet comic book crossover.

The animation studio is WildBrain, they're going to shop around both broadcast television and streaming services.

Cool, I've been watching bits and pieces of the old series on MeTV, and I love the idea of an updated animated series.

I'm glad to hear that they're not just transplanting the Hornet and Kato into the present day. However, even the son of the Green Hornet would be elderly now. I think we're getting into great-grandson territory. :rommie:

Could be interesting and worth a look depending on where it airs. What would be more interesting would be exploring a connection between the Green Hornet and the Lone Ranger. Same creator, and I believe Green Hornet is a descendant of the Lone Ranger's nephew with his fortune coming from the silver mine where the Lone Ranger made his bullets.

I have a feeling the rights for the two different franchises are probably separate, and if so someone else might already have The Lone Ranger.

^Considering the REH estate split up the rights of Conan and Red Sonja in order to sell twice as many licences, I can't imagine the rights for Green Hornet and Lone Ranger being bundled. I mean, the 2011 Green Hornet movie was from Columbia, and the 2013 Lone Ranger movie from Disney. And movie rights and TV rights are probably split, as well.

Besides, the connection between the Green Hornet and the Lone Ranger would provide material for maybe one or two episodes of an animated show, but hardly a whole series.

It would make a fascinating flashback, or some tale Britt Reid is sharing with one his confidants. My biggest concern is the adaptation of Kato or a descendant--I would not want to see what too many people have done (like the 80s/90s books from Now comics) and are essentially channeling "The Legend of Bruce Lee" instead of focusing on the true origins of the character.
which was established long before the 1966-'67 William Dozier TV series (especially in his native radio drama version).
