The Good That Men Do questions

While reading Kobayashi Maru I've had two questions about The Good That Men Do that I can't quite remember the answers to.

1: How couldn't Jake and Nog know about the attack on Coridan? Surely something that important couldn't be swept under the rug, even by Section 31. The people of Coridan would have to remember that.

2: Why did the holoprogram change the date from just before the Coalition is formed to just before the Federation is formed?

Thanks for your help.

“We knew that Coridan was hit hard,” Jake said, “but the records have always been vague about exactly how it happened.
Although this certainly explains why the Corridanites did what they did during the Romulan War.”
They knew that there was an attack, they just didn't know all the details.

2: Why did the holoprogram change the date from just before the Coalition is formed to just before the Federation is formed?
Section 31 made those changes on purpose. But what was the actual purpose, god only knows (and the authors perhaps).

That Coridan was attacked was understood to be a well-known historical fact. It was the identity of the attackers -- and Trip's and the Enterprise's role in trying to stop it, and the United Earth Starfleet Admiralty's role in thwarting their attempts to stop the attack -- that were lost to history.

2: Why did the holoprogram change the date from just before the Coalition is formed to just before the Federation is formed?

I believe that Good's logic was that the date was changed to completely throw people off with regards to finding the truth of Section 31's existence.

Which I think is probably the most nonsensical part of the whole TATV reinterpretation we're supposed to believe. I can interpret the authors' reasoning for doing this as being that they wanted to leave all the events of TATV as having happened in 2154 (or 55) with the rest of season 4, so that they could then continue on from that point in the books without having any future events to have to keep in line with (e.g. so that they can now promote or kill some characters and this also leaves them the ability to rewrite the founding of the Federation to their own liking... whenever we may get to that point). But from a story point of view, how tampering with the supposed date of historical events is supposed to leave people less suspicious of a conspiracy and not moreso is beyond me. Maybe we'll get some attempt at an explanation of this when we get to see how the founding occurs according to the book series.

I don't know that the date "change" was so much a cover-up as a popular misconception, akin to the question of what date the Declaration of Independence was signed, or marking 1776 as the year of the United States' "birth" as opposed to the ratification of the Constitution, or of the Articles of Confederation, or the formation of the first Continental Congress.
