The Global Football Thread

I'm wondering how much that long layoff is going to affect players/teams performance going forward the rest of the season.
Might we see more injuries on the field.

I won’t bore you all again with West Ham’s travails and the inevitable trudge towards disappointment in the EFL.
But God above,is it too much to ask,now that the exorcism of the boardroom has finally taken place..the club now becomes a pawn in some billionaires share acquisition drama.
I think I might just give up and start watching the darts!

I dunno, you've made some interesting signings, and you've made ridiculous amounts of money on two players

No lessons learned from last year.No attacking players brought in,deficiencies in every part of the field. The Hammers are like that kid who spends the summer holidays faffing about and then realises that he has homework to do on the Sunday night before going back.

On the upside these investors will want us to go back up and stay up so I dunno.

With the WC and everything it's still early days for player signings so you'll probably start splashing the cash a little. Keeping Bowen is like a signing

But you need time to embed a team.Having a look at our fixtures we need to hit the ground running,it’s a long season but as the quality of teams in the EFL will testify, a bad start is a very bad start.
Anyhoo I’m not going to bore anyone this year with WH drama.(promise)😇

Ugh I see Sullivan has been asked to stay away from games but plans to defy that instruction. I hope the fans give him a warm welcome!

Wonder if Mel goes to games? He was a fan who did before he became owner.
I don't know. I'm never sure quite how much of a fan he actually was. Also I'd heard he'd been ill as well. (probably the stress though some of it was self inflicted!)

What's your take on this supposed Saudi takeover? I'm wary, having had stable ownership under Clowes I'm concerned that we're going to go mad again!

Im undecided. Ive enjoyed the careful growth under Clowes but its clear he doesn't have the funds to take us to.the next level.

The Saudi takeover though, don't know really, obviously the read up on alleged human rights offences doesn't look good and sits somewhat uncomfortable with me.

I guess if we get to the PL and become established we'll probably turn a blind eye.

Yeah its not good, but I guess like Newcastle/Man City/Forest fans etc it's easier to be a hypocrite if you're successful.

It's just been nice to be a normal well run club for once without any drama and with a decent human being as an owner. I get that Clowes can't take us any further, and really needs to recoup some of the millions he's spent, I suppose I naively hoped we'd get some morally upstanding new owner, or some coalition of local millionaires. I suspect the Clowes of this world are few and far between.

I just hope if it goes through he is more a background figure, Clowes i believe wants to remain involved so hopefully he would still be the face of thr club.

well you do have another defender now at least and Veltman is very good, especially at Championship level I'd say.

the famous streaming tv show ted lasso returned lol

which is about football

i never actually watched the show but i know what the show is about
Genuinely dude you need to watch it - doesn't exactly require an in depth knowledge of the sport (although certain things like characters who are in universe versions of real players adds to it) and it is one of the most heart warming shows going.

There are a couple of moments in season 3 that genuinely made me cry for the first time in almost a decade when I saw them
