This is amazing. I especially like the BBC's analysis of science fiction of the era and the fact they considered Arthur C. Clarke as a consultant. The "hero is the idea" concept annoyed me, but I suppose that it was true for at least some of science fiction back then.

Lots of Aussies involved in the start of the show: they got demobbed at the end of WWII, and were hungry 'youngsters' trying to get a start in London and willing to work on this weird new show when more stablished people weren't by 1963.
Among the writers, off the top of my head, Bill 'Zarbi' Strutton was also from down under (and original script editor David Whitaker moved there in the 1970s).

The creation of Doctor Who was very much an international effort, if you think about it. Sydney Newman, generally considered the de facto creator of Doctor Who (though it was in reality more a committee thing) was a Canadian and went to the UK after working for the CBC. And Waris Hussein, the director of the first serial, was born in India.
