That includes new drama "The Gates," about a creepy mountain community, which will air Sundays at 9 p.m. starting June 20
“The Gates”, starring “Prison Break” alum Frank Grillo, is about a big-city cop who becomes a police chief in a small suburban town, where there is more than meets the eye.
The show also stars Luke Mably (“The Prince and Me”) as one town’s residents who is a cardiologist/vampirelike creature, Janina Gavankar (“The L Word”) as a local cop with a dark secret and Chandra West (“90210″), who plays the owner of a tea shop.
"Gates" is produced by Fox TV Studios through the company's international co-production model. Its green light was contingent on FtvS securing foreign financing.
Another International co-production airing on ABC similar to Defying Gravity from last Summer.
Written by Richard Hatem and Grant Scharbo, "Gates" centers on a big-city cop (Grillo) who becomes chief of police in a seemingly sleepy planned community only to discover there's much more to the residents than meets the eye.
Scharbo, Hatem and Gina Matthews are executive producing the project,

ABC's casting call for its new series The Gates revealed a massive supernatural spoiler about this small-town cop show.

Vampires, Werewolves, & witches.
a creepy mountain community?
It sounds like ABC wanted something like Haven that SyFy will start airing in July though with the vampire elements of CW's "The Vampire Diaries" but they didn't want to fully fund this themselves so when they decide to cancel it after 6 or 8 episodes (like they did to Defying Gravity) they won't be too worried about not airing the rest of the produced episodes...

Sounds like it could be a blast. But I don't think it's vampire-centric. There are werewolves on the high school football team and (this could be the best part of the show) two rival witches who run small businesses in town, I guess selling witch oriented merchandise.

Richard Hatem was a major figure in Miracles, the old Skeet Ulrich series that got clobbered by the Iraq war. Skeet was adorable. The standalone episodes were great for a fantasy show (one producer admitted in the commentary they preferred the standalones.) Someone in that show had a good eye for talent, finding Maggie Grace and Zachary Quinto for instance. And importing Angus MacFadyen.

So, although the capsule description sounds dreary, this has some pedigree.

I'm so tired of Vampires.

Can't we have something new for the new decade, like cheerleaders or something?

one town’s residents who is a cardiologist/vampirelike creature,
the only reason Im gonna watch is b/c I think the doctor from Twilight is one of the only actually interesting characters from that series & this is the closest thing to having that character right now besides sitting through more Twilight sequels. :p

I liked Miracles, too. It had real potential. Didn't Hatem also develop Supernatural? That's one of the better shows out there.

And Zachary Quinto was in Miracles? I have it on DVD - which episode!?!

I am actually want to see Hellcats...mainly to see how a Tom Welling produced show turns out.

The Gates sounds kinda boring.

Nothing on TV is really original now and having high expectations is pretty mute.

Zachary Quinto was one of the Confederate soldiers in the timeslip episode. A small part, but still, it's Zachary Quinto.

Even though I'm the wrong gender (then again, it's CW, maybe this will be more female-oriented), it could be a decent premise for a series, like Glee with pom-poms?

Holy crap, I gotta rewatch that ep!

This made me think of Wolf Lake actually. Remember when not everyone and their grandma was making vampire books, movies, and tv shows. Before Buffy, there was Forever Knight, Kindred the Embraced, Kolchak The Nightstalker, and Dark Shadows. 4 shows in forty years! Now there's one per network! Wasn't ABC the channel Moonlight was on?

I swear it might be easier for a network to just produce 8 or 12 eps of a show, cancel it, then release the dvd and make their money. What ever happened to Blood Ties?

Okay, I couldn't resist this challenge. Besides the four shows you mentioned, there was also THE MUNSTERS, the "Curse of Dracula" segments on CLIFFHANGERS, and DRACULA-THE SERIES, a short-lived syndicated show that ran back in 1991-1992.

Plus, of course, pretty much every tv show felt obliged to have a "vampire" episode, including F TROOP, GILLIGAN'S ISLAND, STARSKY AND HUTCH, McCLOUD, etcetera . . . .

Yea I liked that little Dracula show, with Lucard and Mia Kirshner. I think I may even have some episodes still on tape somewhere!

My point was that yes most vamp shows were osbscure or funny back in the day. Now its so popular and hip. Like remember when Star Trek wasn't 'cool'? ;0)

Ok lets take a regular teenie bopper movie and a sf/f movie and come up with a tv show...

"War Of The Worlds" meets "Stick it" Gymnastics & Alien invasion...I know I would tune in. :techman:
