OK you Spoony Bards, it's time.
Son of a Shoopuff, Final Fantasy X turned 20 last month!
This might be a fun topic. Anyone whose played these has a favorite. Or maybe you just hate them all. I left the MMO's and hand-held games out, focusing only on the stand-alone. if I missed anything, my apologies. i know Vagrant story is KIND of a stretch but I put it in, anyway.

Now, time for everyone to chime in and admit that VII is overrated :)

I voted VI.

Final Fantasy was the gold standard once. VII was in a lot of ways a step forward for the genre but also established not so great precedents. Characters who were strategically all the same, slow combat, ultra long animations. Depth by vagueness.

But they kept making basically good games until they tried to pander to Western tastes. Then games became slow, awkward, unstrategic, repetitive fetch quest ridden over complicated messes that couldn’t even make you like the characters and if the series didn’t have a legacy of greatness they wouldn’t have sold a copy in 20 years.

I voted for FF VI. A great story and music, fun gameplay, and characters I cared about all add up to something great. I also really love FF V, I think its a very underrated entry in the series, and IX and X-2 (never X) were also very good.
