The "Event" this fall on NBC - what have you heard

NBC is being very mum on details regarding this falls new series The Event. I've poked around the various sites that summarize it with little or no detail.

What have you heard? Sound good? I've also heard that their may be some sci-fi aspects to the show.

Very little. They've done a great job keeping this under wraps. All I do know is that they've said they have a multiyear arc ready.

It sounds like it's definitely sci fi. It got a great reception at Comic-Con so now NBC is throwing a ton of promotion behind it, hoping it will be the big hit they've desperately needed for a long time.

It has an intriguing cast and the producers keep talking about how they're mashing Lost and 24 together but yknow without all that stuff people didn't like. ;) They're made a particular point that they will not make us wait eons for answers to questions.

The premise looks like "nice guy gets in over his head in a massive constantly unspooling mystery of mind-bendingly cosmic importance." His initial motivation is to find his missing fiance, and that somehow gets him embroiled in all the rest.

If they can hook the audience via the nice guy lead character (played by John Ritter's son), they might have something. I hope they remember that humor isn't a crime even in a thriller type show. The clips I've seen look disconcertingly humorless.

The President and some eeeevil CIA honcho (played by the always-wonderful Zeljko Ivanek) are dealing with a mysterious group of prisoners. We don't know why they're prisoners or anything about them except that they're "not American." Which is a very suspicious thing to highlight, leading to the conclusion that they're also not something else, like human or from this galaxy, timeline or dimension.

Based mainly on the logo treatment (the backwards E is a dead giveaway!) I've gone on record that the big mystery is that a rip in the space-time continuum has opened up a door to a parallel universe, and that the prisoners are being kept under guard so they don't meet their dopplegangers in our reality. Nobody knows how to close the stupid rip, so everyone is freaking out. I hope this turns out to be the premise, because we've seen enough aliens, mutants and time travellers.

And of course, I have a perfect prediction track record for Lost so I will turn out to be right! :rommie:

The event is NOT a presidential assassination, and it's not something else, I forgot. It better be something awesome, though. :)

I'm not really interested in this series because it is going to be one of those programs that strings the audience along forever and you only will learn a tiny tiny bit of information that might be useful later on. I see myself watching an episode and then getting made at myself for wasting an hour of my time to find out almost nothing.

Then if you do watch it you end up finding out it has been canceled mid season and they never got to the reveal and all your time has been wasted.

See I've felt this way ever since I got frustrated and burned by "The Nine."

Initially I thought it was something to do with Aliens, but I don't know. I don't think it's a "Terrorism" show,. If it is, I won't be watching it. If it's aliens or something scifi, I will probably give it a shot. I just hope it's not hyped to death only to drag on and on so long with no real answers.

The Event is the back door sequel to Heroes. The "Event" as it were is when the President decides to go to war and exterminate all of Homo Superior so that Homo Normal can live on.

Most of the Heroes actors are secretly already contracted for guest spots at later points in the season.

I know all this information is true because a drunk hamster told me.

Amen, I will not watch anything until it's finished and I've had reliable information that it's not simply spinning it's wheels week after week for seven years.

Interesting. I always have fun talking about the latest TV series... not really much fun to go and discuss stuff 10 years after it's been off the air with the exception of a few series.
