The Earth-Romulan War
Prologue
In the Imperial Senate the politicians are voicing a movement for the Romulan War Plans Council to disrupt the alliance of the Coalition of Planets. Ultimately, they hope to conquer that entire section of the galaxy in the name of unlimited conquest. A Predator-class Romulan ship is sent out to bomb San Francisco where Star Fleet Headquarters is located and a few key cities. The Predator-class ship is out fitted with the latest in computer technology and controlled via telepresence by Remans. It has capability of achieving Warp 4. Weapon systems are somewhat advanced for the time. The main purpose of the class is for planetary bombardment using nuclear warheads on the underbelly.

In 2156, Earth is unsure of what to anticipate of the Romulans from the incident of two years ago. Eventually the Predator-class ship reaches Earth and attacks Starfleet HQ and a few other cities with its nuclear weapons. The ship is stopped by planetary defense systems before it’s able to completely finish its attack. Destruction is evident in seeing the damage of large cities, part of Starfleet HQ and the still under construction Challenger NX-03. *Columbia was the first Starfleet ship to be lost and Challenger the second. In the debris of the mysterious ship it is found out that they call themselves the “Rihannsu.”
Recuperating from the assault, Earth calls an emergency Coalition of Planets meeting with its members. Information of the shape of the ship suggests its Romulan and reasons that that would be likely because of past events. All 7 delegates declare neutrality for their respective planets and in interest of staying out of the possible war and protecting their planet. The charter can permit this to happen. Coridan was especially afraid of Rihannsu. All members would how ever they could support Earth. Most of the help would come economically. Earth needed the resources to recover and build its army back up. Later in the war, Coridan is conducting an experiment on a warp seven engine and other technologies. Because of their paranoia, the project is kept a secret. Denobula would be the main source of medical supplies and assistance.
Enterprise gets a message from Admiral Gardner and returns to Earth at maximum warp from their second visit to the planet Stratos. **It was quicker and smoother ride for the crew than expected because of the refit. Commander Shran was assigned off the Starfleet ship even though he served for a short period because of the neutral position of Andoria. A couple months later Earth is able to regain its ability to defend itself thanks to the industrial support of the Coalition of Planets particularly the Tellarite Alliance and the Rigelian Trade Commission who were the big industrial and financial supporters of Earth. The NX-01 will be used as a command ship and assist in long range scanning. In reaction to the latest events, the UE armada devises an outline to form a blockade at planetoid Ogalith around 25 light years from Sol. Officially, Earth made act of war. It’s recorded in most Federation textbooks that the Humans made the first move. Vulcans later inspect the warp signature; it was the new ion drive recently being developed by the Romulans.

Long range sensors detect a fleet of remote controlled ships. Later it is found out that the Rihannsu call this type of ship Shirekral-class.
The battle of Miridan begins three weeks later. It was a surprising victory for United Earth. Moral gets an early boost. The next battle takes 4 and ½ weeks later at Zet Reticuli 2. A glitch is found in the sensors by the mysterious attackers. This advantage works and 60% of our fire misses. Earth ships catches on towards the end of the battle but it is too late. The skirmish is first victory for the enemy. The Rihannsu plan on bombing Vulcan. Unfortunately for them, they are intercepted by the UE fleet at the star Sirius. There was
no warfare because all three vessels self destructed with their own nuclear fusion warheads. Two of them were believed to be the same class of the ship that bombarded Earth.
2157:
Next year was upon us. On February 3, the Rihannsu’s intelligence agency, the Tal Shiar launched a plan on abducting more Aenar to operate the improved telepresence device. Aenars unlike Remans, could operate more then one remote controlled ship. A Tal Shiar transport was escorted by two Shirekrals. This convoy used the Monoceros Ring as cover. Later in their run, they discovered that the Andorians were heavily patrolling the area around the Barradas system because of the war threat. The escort retreated in the likely hood of being detected by Andorian sensors when they moved out of the ring. April 5 was the day which the battle at Datura Cluster erupted. For the crewman’s perspective, it was a tense battle inside the asteroid belt. The Romulans came on us from nearly all angles, our valor won the battle. Though it was a close victory, we pushed the Romulans back even further. It was considered a victory because we were moving ever closer to the Romulan Homeworld.
2158:
The following year was breaking new ground for the conflict. One of our scouting micro-probes found the base where the Romulans were sabotaging the Terralite support routes. It was at Galordon Core. We assaulted the base with our atomic and thermonuclear fusion missiles with success, no enemy ship in sight. However, the Romulans had a secret line of obstructing the vital faculity going all the way to Tellar Prime. Enterprise investigated with scanning and long range sensors. Our findings had discovered where the barrier streak was hidden. San Francisco Headquarters sent out a few human vessels to search them out and was also accompanied by Terralite ships. By the end of it, most of the opposition were either destroyed by alliance ships or committed the standard practice of self destruction.
Yet there was one Romulan ship that had a defective nuclear self destruct mechanism. It was studied and we learned much about its systems. The native registry translated to Shirekral-class and operated by an improved telepresence unit operated by a believed slave species telepathic bio sign. This unknown species was unquestionably not Aenar and not nearly as strong in it’s telepathic abilities. One of these slaves could only control one ship. Maximum warp is estimated to be around warp 3.12, slightly faster than our ships. Ships of this kind can be controlled manually from the bridge. The appearance is similar to the two drone ships of a few years ago but with differences. These kinds of vessels are somewhat bigger, grey color, and more of a snail-like design. Another differentiation is the positions of some systems. The subspace transceivers are in the place where the hologram emitters were on the hull, sticking out 10 meters in length. Its nuclear fusion weapons are located where the drone ship’s subspace transceivers originally were, the stock of it was up to 20 replaceable projectiles.
The fleet encountered the Eagle nebula. Sensors were erratic and we couldn’t see or get a lock on a Shirekral. We don’t know how many ships we took down but we lost twelve ships. It was a victory for United Earth again because the armada pushed back the adversaries even further to their home world. For a moment when the battle was over, scanning caught a different signature of the ships then before. Intelligence believes that the Romulans have improved their technology and changed the telepresence units for computer multi-ship control. This speculation rumor was confirmed at the Battle of Carraya. After came was the dreaded Battle of Vorkado, with their new techonolgy the Romulans were able to outflank the human forces and badly damage the NX-01 with fusion warheads. The Enterprise had orders to return to the Sol Sector for repair. This conflict was the worst defeat for the humans and the most glorious victory for the Romulans.
2159:
2159 was a year of optimism and hope for Earth. It was a comeback from the Battle of Vorkado. We won most of the battles and we still forcing the enemy backward to their believed home world. The philosophy of the Romulans changed from an offensive to a defensive one. They recognized that they could only muster enough effort to defend Romulus.
Mid-July began the skirmish on Tranome Sar was a loss for the Humans. Our enemies were attempting to stay hidden and using the local star’s solar flares to their own advantage. This was the last victory for the Romulans. Our sensors picked up the Romulan Core Worlds slightly before the Battle of Cheron.
2160
The now famous Battle of Cheron was a humiliating and major defeat for the Romulans on the date of January 12, 2160. It was a last ditch effort to end the war from a defensive position. Unknown to Romulans, Andorian tracking stations were able follow their fleet. The planet of Cheron was close to Andorian space and in so gave an advantage to Earth. Rihannsu forces were hiding from our view behind the planet. They were planning to use the element of surprise and executed an overconfident maneuver. Earth fleet caught on and only a few vessels were lost in the attack. This event would establish long-term political effects within the Romulan Empire lasting for centuries.
A treaty was negotiated by subspace radio on both sides. The leader identified himself as Praetor Karzan of the Rihannsu. *** He and the temporary leader, Christopher Thorpe began discussions. Following the Battle of Cheron the two sides negotiated a treaty via subspace radio. Among other things it, established a Neutral Zone, entry into which by either side would constitute an act of war. Shortly after, Earth set up eight outposts on asteroids to monitor Romulan activity.

A year later, in 2161, came the formation of the United Federation of Planets; with the founding species as Humans, Vulcan, Andorians, Terralites and Rigelians. The Romulans saw it as an Anti-Romulan alliance.
Coridan yards releases Daedalus-class; Type Explorer goes into commission in early months of 2161, soon after the founding of the Federation. This class was decommissioned by 2196.
Romulus started a program to develop the plasma beam weapon at end of the conflict. Nicknamed “Cabbage” or “Green Mushroom”
The humiliation of the defeat at Cheron would establish long-term political effects within the Romulan Empire lasting for centuries. Some remaining factions of the Romulan military and political branches did still exist; nevertheless most of the Romulans were arrested. In extreme cases, the Praetor ordered executions that resembled witch hunts
The Romulan economy was in ruins, barely able to supply basic commodities of daily life.It was hard to live even on Romulus because of the shortages. Many of the colony worlds were abandoned because they were rendered uninhabitable. In the future the Romulan Merchant Fleet built the native economy back up.
Most of the few warp capable ships would be limited to unusual circumstances. They did however use patrol cruisers in short distances within the Core Worlds.
Habitable invasion-staging areas were planned near the border in the early twenty-third century.
In time, news of the Earth-Romulan War had reached the Klingons, who sought to turn the Romulans' preoccupation with protecting their worlds to their own advantage. They were able to fend them off due to superior technology even though less in numbers.
Klingon activity along the Romulans's southern frontier had increased significantly in the next decades. Conflicts of big proportions didn’t break out until the 2230’s.

-The Romulans had a slight edge in technology and numbers. United Earth won because of courage on their part and cooperation between the alliance. They devoted most of resources to battle with Earth, though did divide
-Note that United Earth slowly colonized after the war where ever it was though to be safe. Romulus could only occupy worlds in western and northern directions that didn’t go along the lines of the Klingons or the Federation.
-Earth had no knowledge that Romulans were an offshoot of Vulcans until the border incident of 2266.
-Valdore redeemed himself with the Battle of Vorkado and the elimination of the Starfleet vessel. Valdore-class as seen in Nemesis was named after him. Later he was replaced by military commander Toreth.
-Admiral Gregory Black named the second Romulan planet “Romii.” The Romulans were recently colonizing it and used its natives the Remans as slaves and operated the T. unit. Sometime before the 23rd century it was named “Remus.”
-Though the native name of the Romulans is known, the orginal name relating to the Ancient Romans sticks.
