The Doctor or a Human doctor

I always wondered what would Janeway do if say they (Voyager) came across another starship and combinded the 2 crews and the other starship had a senior medical officer. Would she keep The Doctor as CMO or regulate him back to EMH? Your thoughts

It depends at what point in the series. At the beginning I'm sure she would just turn him off. But by the end after he had proven countless times that he's at least as good as any human Doctor and more so, she'd leave him in charge.

Now THAT sounds like a wonderful opportunity for drama. Something Voyager lacked from time to time. IMHO, of course.

really? It was always dramatic enough for me, but yes that would have good a good storyline

It would depend. If he's a civilian than the EMH would probably remain in command. If they somehow encountered another Starfleet ship and found a Medical Officer who had been to Starfleet Academy and was a commissioned officer technically the new arrival would be the Seniormost Medical Officer (the EMH didn't have a rank).

Why combine the two Crews though, would something have happened to this other Starship that would force that crew to go aboard Voyager? Voyager isn't a big ship and there really aren't that many that are smaller so if the other ship was like a Miranda or even a Nebula then it would be Voyagers crew that would have to transfer to those ships if anything happened as Voayger would be barely large enough to sustain any more than a dozen or so from either ship.

Anyway for the question the way I see it, depending on the scenario above then the Doctor would have to act as at least an Assistant to the Senior CMO, that is also that said Starship doesn't already have an EMH of there own and they could tranfer our Doctor to there ship should that scenario occur.

^ I was just thinking about the Equinox. Which is a perfect example if they'd combined because they were a skeleton crew and there weren't more than a few dozen of them anyhow.

If both crews became integrated, I tend to think the EMH would still serve as the doctor if it was a season later on. (like was said above) Though I can see where there would be a conflict. Technically the 'real' doctor from the other ship would outrank the EMH but again, it depends what season we're talking about. (For me, it would be like working at a mill for 20 years in the same position and then some new person comes and steals your job because you were technically just supposed to be filling in.) At any rate, that totally would have ruined the show for me. I love the EMH.
