The Death Star has cleared the planet!

There's such a sharp edge to Tethys where it meets the clouds... with that and the way the haze doesn't seem to overlap it, it's hard to believe this isn't Photoshopped. But the angle of the sunlight does seem to match, and I guess that cloud layer could just have a pretty abrupt interface with the haze above it. And maybe some kind of image processing has made the edge look unnaturally sharp.

Great picture!

Some interesting trivia: Tethys has a mean radius of about 533 Km, which puts it at about the same size as the second Death Star, which according Wookiepedia has a diameter of 900 Km.

Maybe someone could write a fan fiction where Tethys is discovered to be an ancient fossilized Death Star, from a galaxy far, far away. ;)

Interesting as in the original shot posted Tethys does appear to have a large crater in the same position as in the Mimas shot posted. If it weren't for the fact that this is a .gov sight for the original shot I would claim this as further evidence of "photoshpping". Maybe the NASA websight has named the moon incorrectly and it is Mimas?

Not that they cannot make mistakes, but APOD is pretty accurate with what they post. Here is a picture of Tethys showing a large crater similar to what we see in the original picture. It's require some heavy-duty examination, but it'd be nice to compare the size of the craters in each picture relative to the rest of the surface area, to see which more closely matches that in the original pic I linked to.
