... the darkest day of Human history...

So what is the actual "darkest day of human history"? My first suggestion would be january 30th, 1933.

I wouldn't care to venture a guess. There's something obscene about the very notion.

In whatever form it can be said to exist, though, 9/11 bears the same relationship to it as a LEGO automobile does to a Bugatti Veyron. And no, not this LEGO automobile.

I would also venture to suggest that giving such a ridiculous statement its own thread is to give it rather more consideration than it deserves.

Impossible to say - even if we were to limit the scope to the last 100 years, there are a dozen or more possibilities. Even in the last ten. The Boxing Day Tsunami was over 50 times as deadly to humans as 9/11.

I remember 9/11 vividly, it made a big impact on our generation, and shaped the policies of more than one nation for a decade (and probably more). I do not mean to diminish its impact on those who suffered, and suffer, as a result of it, nor the symbolic impact on the United States. But the quote in the OP is beyond ridiculous.

Darkest day, hard to say. Darkest year, OTOH, might be during those times that Mao and Stalin eliminated millions of their own people.

... the darkest day of human history, ...

No, it's not the darkest day in human history.

Posting a roll-eyes and one sentence disagreeing with a comment without much of a subject does not constitute a worthwhile thread. Especially when the thread is dedicated to ridiculing a single (albeit historically ignorant) post.

You and Rii already chose to disrupt the other thread with comments on this post after being explicitly asked not to in the OP, and you could have just ignored it like everyone else, or, if it bothered you so much, started another thread about what the actual "darkest day in Human history" is in your opinion without basing the entire thing on pointing out the flawed logic of that poster.

You didn't even ask to discuss the larger issue of what you consider the darkest day to be. Someone else had to bring it up to give this thread some meaning. So while I'm glad that you chose to start another thread instead of further disrupting the memorial thread, it was a little too late since you already did that too, and since this thread is completely lacking in content and is based on one post which you ridicule and not any kind of widely held belief.

If you want to start the thread over without ridiculing anyone and with a specific subject matter like the darkest day in human history, go ahead. If you're starting it just to criticize people memorializing 9/11 though (even if they're misguided about it), that would be in poor taste.
