The Dalek Masterplan's first two episodes found!! by an eclectic collector!!

Oh, why couldn't episode 4, "The Traitors," have been among them? That featured the death of Katarina as she's blown out the doors of the TARDIS.

I've listened to Masterplan four or five times over the years. It's sprawling and a bit messy (the Monk interlude comes to mind).
I'd be interested in seeing it just because they filmed her bouncing slowly on a trampoline as a part of the scene.

Not in my absolute top list of episodes I want back but still an incredible find and I can't wait to see them!

Of course I did just finish watching/listening to DMP for my current rewatch!

No need to thank me everyone, as i thought it was about time i share some of these missing episodes i have hidden away, and i may even release another one before the end of the year, i will think about it. lol

But yeah can't wait to see these 2, great news indeed.

What an extraordinary discovery! Those particular two episodes no less, even though I agree with  Allyn that "The Traitors" would be an even better find. Maybe someday...

I love Peter Purves' reaction: "My flabber has never been so gasted." I might have to steal that one.

I'm already super jealous of anyone who gets to go to the April screening.

And apparently these aren't what they were talking about a few months ago, so there's potentially one more episode recovered too.
Ah, I wondered about that. What's your source?

Lovely to see on BBC Breakfast this morning the moment they told Peter Purves he was going to watch Episode 1.
Just found that segment on YouTube:

Really lovely to see Peter's live reaction to the news of the discovery of one episode (Toby Hadoke held back news of the second until after they viewed the first, the cheeky bastard).

Plus the segment features a couple clips from the missing episodes, which is a nice little teaser.

Great to read! It's not the first time a private collection has been the source of previously "junked" material, under conditions in a world far different in 1974.

Apparently the episodes were in "ramshackle" condition. Amazed at the condition of what has been shown so far. I'd imagine the episodes were confirmed as existing, then procured, then sufficiently digitized, and finally a confirmation of recovery was given.

That's what I assumed, too. What I'm curious about is the actual time for these events. How long did they had to keep this hush-hush? When were the canisters actually discovered?

It is a bit surreal that this serial where no episode should exist, we now have five of the twelve, but 'Marco Polo' where arguably some, if not all should exist, we gave none
More sales doesn't necessarily help, same number of copies (or maybe a few more) go through more places... As Masterplan was never sold only Australia ever had a copy, so more stayed in the UK (assuming prints were struck before the Aussie no).

I'm shocked this hasn't been posted yet:

So damn exciting to see new old footage after all of these years...and of Nicholas Courtney, no less! Just a pity he didn't live long enough to see these episodes again.

Just to clarify, cause it seems some confusion in the thread.

1)

These ARE from the collection that FiF has been talking about over the last few months.

They knew there was 1, but after securing the collection, they found 6 episodes in total, two of which (DMP 1 and 3) were missing.

The others were 2 episodes of The Daleks, 1 episode of The Chase and 1 episode of The Web Planet.

2)

@Qonundrum @The Nth Doctor

The material wassecured a very short time ago, a matter of weeks, possibly less than a fortnight, and have not been restored or digitized in any way yet (listen to that hiss on the soundtrack of the clips…).

The reason the picture looks quite good is these episodes were bought, but the collector never viewed them. He got them on the side of a larger bundle of films about canals and waterways and was not a Doctor Who fan.

The episodes are not in ‘ramshackle condition’. The collection itself was described as being organised in a ramshackle way.

3)

Paul Vanezis, long standing ME expert knows of another collection which contains 2 missing episodes (most likely Hartnell), but for reasons unknown, it’s a no-go right now. The collector said ‘they have other fish to fry’, whatever that means.

FiF have alluded to other collectors they are negotiating with. So there’s potentially and likely more to come.

Paul Vanezis in the last 24 hours was asked directly, what are the chances of more coming back within the next two years, on a 1-10 scale. 1 being low, 10 being high.

His answer?… 10. A confidently expressed 10 at that.

4)

Finally Phil Morris said something about The Tenth Planet 4, but nobody cares about that dickhead anymore so maybe don’t put any stock in that.

Exciting times.
