The Daily Show Returns to the UK

It's not the politics in any case. Stewart is a comedian and he's funny. Funny works even when you know squat about the politics. His "Go fuck yourself" gospel song was a comedy classic.

The Daily Show is good but Colbert Report is better!

Eh, TCR is okay, but I don't get the "hype" that it's better than TDS. Colbert is funny and all but the raving audience in the opening segment I find to be a bit much and the "shtick" Colbert has put on doing the overly partisan host I think sort of buries the "thumping" so deserved by his target.

When Stewart gets on a tangent he delivers a good, hard, dose of smack-down on whomever he's attacking. That, for me, is what is awesome about Stewart and TDS he's relevant and a biting criticism of the media and political figures.

That, for me, is far better than Colbert doing a broad parody of Bill O'Reilly.

Colbert does some really impressive smackdowns though. I've seen him leave guests, right and left reeling. If you're not on your toes he'll bury you. Unlike Stewart a bad guest can't even make their points when outmatched by Colbert.

Oh rats. Good news for anyone with Comedy Central, but as I've only got Freeview I guess this means I'll lose even the weekly version. Which, means I can clear More4 off the favourites list, as Daily Show as the only thing left on there I was still watching (another pyrrhic victory for Jay Hunt and her crusade to drive everything except cookery and property porn off the air).

There was a period of a couple of years where I preferred Colbert's show to Stewart's, but I think the former lost its novelty eventually, and TDS' more direct format just holds up better over time.
