The coolest fake ad for modern Doctor Who...ever

:barf:

Sorry, but that was just awful. I've been trying my hardest to forget the worst excesses of the RTD era. This just brought it all flooding back..

Yes, but it encapsulates that era. That's what is so awesome about it. Love or hate RTD (and I generally go for the latter) this video is a perfect representation of his run. Not to mention, the quality is fantastic... :techman:

Is it okay for me to like it more than most, if not all, of the REAL ads for Doctor Who?

Seconded. At least Moffat seems to have got away from the fetishising of the Doctor whereby we keep getting it drummed into us how amazing or deep or whatever he is. Makes that article the other day about him not minding RTD writing for the show again all the more worrying.

This season's enjoyability is a lot lower for me because of the lack of those elements.

Awesome video, with some great compositing work at the end. :techman:

That was really, really cool, I think. It certainly makes you remember what was great about that period.

And the funny thing for me is, much like Gep Malakai, that, yeah, it's almost like something is missing this season compared to the previous ones (for me the ones with Tennant, in particular).
Don't get me wrong. I think Matt Smith is amazing and I also really like Amy. But somehow none of the episodes seems to have managed to feel as powerful and/or meaningful as some of the best moments during the series before it.
Yes, there is also the element of going completely over the top to RTD Doctor Who (particularly when the Master is involved, it would seem). But still, I very much enjoyed that sense of wonder that came from feeling the Doctor was 'amazing' or 'deep' or 'special' or whatever you want to call it simply because it meant he was able to take you on an amazing ride like no-one else. I also liked it because it was both his greatest asset as well as his greatest weakness. He would strive to do good and to be good but would all too often (particularly towards the end of Tennant's tenure) trip over his own sense of greatness.
Having said that, I'm really looking forward to the finale to this series and already anticipating what the series after that might bring :).

^ Man, as amazing as Tennant's run was (and it was, he'll always I think be my Doctor), I'd stack the endings of Cold Blood or Vincent and the Doctor up against any moment in those three seasons.

I really liked "Vincent" a lot. It might actually be my favorite episode from this series. And, yes, I do agree that it holds up very well compared to the other series.

"Cold Blood", on the other hand, is an example of what has somewhat bothered me in the current series, I guess. At its best, I find that Doctor Who will fool you into thinking it's 'merely' very entertaining. But suddenly, it will hit you with a truly gut-wrenching revelation or moment that ties everything together in a very different way or sheds a different light on things.
I suppose one good example of this is "Human Nature" / "Family of Blood". It's easy to watch this as a kind of alien invasion story and have a fun time doing so. But when you see the children lined up like soldiers in front of the school it just hits you what the true tale really is about. You also see it in the Doctor who knows all too well what's in store for these children for this one battle is just the beginning. And it ends with an amazing flashforward of the one (former) pupil saving the other on the front lines of WW1.

That story was moving for a number of reasons, I think. But one of the reasons it worked was that I thought you really felt for many of the guest characters here. You were sad to realize what lay ahead for them.

For me, personally, "Cold Blood" didn't manage to pull that of. When the grandfather decided to stay underground I really didn't care very much. I also didn't feel much for the former 'owners' of the earth, to be honest. In my mind, they simply remained too flat and undeveloped to evoke any kind of emotional response to their plight.
There were also moments that just seemed terribly naive to me or maybe simplistic in their approach to the general problem, I felt. It's all very well that Amy and that other lady start talking to that one guy. But it's very clear they speak for nobody, really. And it's also clear that with something like 6 billion people (already too much, basically) living on the planet there's not really a chance in hell that it's going to work. Yet somehow everybody seems to think it will (including the Doctor).

So, I don't know, it just didn't quite for me the way it did for you or how the writers probably were hoping it will. But still, I'm enjoying myself so ...
