Now I'd love to see modern programmers do that with PC hardware and exploit the hardware as much as they can.

I know there's still a demo scene but I haven't really looked into it..
As for really getting all out of the hardware of today I think you need to run stuff like 3Dmark or another graphics/CPU benchmark or look for tech demos.

The good old days..
Just look for the Future Crew, they were really great back in the day.. ye gawds this is so long ago, the hardware of those days was so limited but they pulled it off and it all fit on a floppy.

I still have a working 80486 DX2 66Mhz machine.. bought it together with my brother in 1994 and those demos ran on it like a dream back then, guess they still would, when I have the time and the money I will have that machine sorted out good, check and replace all capacitors etc..

I have to agree with you, Purple Motion, Skaven, The Lizard King, Jugi, and so on, what they could do with the tracker music was magic with the capital M, I've used the Scream Tracker for a while but I am a talentless hack so nothing good ever came out of it..

I think my favorite part of the original Unreal game was the MOD-based soundtrack. That was great stuff!
