It's Christmas Eve, but this is to be a far from silent night - the cruel Sycorax have come to Earth to enslave mankind and, as ever, only The Doctor can stop them. Unfortunately, he's lying in a coma in Jackie's home...

Anyone excited about the first ever Doctor Who Christmas special? I heard there was one in the 60's but the BBC didn't take good care of their tapes

I don't know about Barty Crouch Jr. Who's to say he won't leave after one season like Eccelston? Apparently Tennant's a HUGE Doctor Who fan.

P.S

Happy Twenty Year anniversary. ;)

What the freaking hell??!! This episode pissed ALL OVER the ending of the Slitheen two parter which made it clear Harriet Jones will usher in a new golden era for Britain and be the greatest Prime Minister ever, but instead here she blatantly MURDERS aliens and the Doctor topples her government.

And how the hell is saying "she looks tired" supposed to discredit her anyway? That's some backwards and frankly sexist shit right there. If a man looks tired, he's considered a hard worker and perfect for the job. But a woman looks tired and everyone turns on her and runs her out of work?

The political nonsense in this show is getting out of hand, I do not approve of the rather obvious dig at President Bush in this episode. That's downright un-American!

This new Doctor? Bah! Christopher Eccleston left a hole in my heart that this man is not going to fill. I mean, really, what were they thinking replacing the show's lead actor?

Doctor Who showed such promise back in the spring, but if this is any indication of things to come, I'm not sure I can stick around. Sci-fi is dead now. Star Trek is finished with Enterprise's cancellation. Star Wars is done with the release of Revenge of the Sith. Serenity didn't light the box office on fire, meaning the Firefly verse is probably done. Richard Dean Anderson has left Stargate and that show is being taken over by Farscape actors. And with the recent casting of a blond James Bond, that franchise might as well just end too. The future looks rather bleak at the moment, though that new Batman was okay. Not sure what to make of the rumors that Marvel is trying to expand their movie presence with an Iron Man movie...

;)

I don't like this new guy. The show will never recover from the loss of Christopher Eccleston.

His name's too short, it doesn't look right in the opening credits.

The Doctor should probably thank her. He made the Sycorax captain put up his entire species as collateral when the Doctor let him leave, and then the captain broke their deal (and the Doctor said he was done giving out second chances!). By destroying the ship before they could tell anyone what happened, she kept the Doctor from having to commit genocide (again!) to prove he was credible.

(Yeah, I know, RTD probably just thought "Swear on the blood of your species!" sounded cool and didn't think though the implications. I'm sure he'll never be that sloppy about having lofty-sounding dialog that doesn't actually make sense again and this was just a one-time gaff.)

This was a very low budget one on rewatch. You'll notice if you look at the sets and locations. I enjoyed it when it originally came out. It doesn't hold up all that well after seeing the other Christmas specials. But I do miss not having one this year.
