Not the Todd Rundgren version, either.

May 10th will see a new album by The Cars, entitled Move Like This.

Here's the first video and single, Blue Tip

They sound....exactly the same.

And I for one say Rejoice and Huzzah, New Wave Brothers and Sisters! Of course, there is no Ben Orr (RIP), but Ric Ocasek is still as cool as the other side of the pillow.

I loved these guys back in the day. I had every album and saw every tour. I was 4th row at the Fabulous Forum for the Heartbeat City show, still one of my favorite concerts of all time.

I'm glad to see Ric Oscasek is back in the fold. That Todd Rundgren thing was a bad idea.
I saw the Heartbeat City tour in Denver. I was disappointed that there was absolutely no interaction with the audience, no encore. They played the songs, said goodnight, and left. That soured me on them a bit, but their music still sounds great.

Yeah, they weren't chatty but they did do an encore (in Los Angeles anyway...You're All I've Got Tonight).

The technology of that tour was pretty amazing (for 1984). That's what I remember most.

Fuck yeah The Cars.

Candy-O is one of those albums I always keep in my car at all times.

Candy-O was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I remember walking to the record store to buy it. I wore it out. I loved the record.

Ahh..1978..The Cars self titled debut...had it on LP and my girlfriend at the time had it on 8 track...

The Cars were the band that ushered in the New Wave for me and mine...

It's nice to see they've stayed true to their sound...And not changed it for modern times...

"The Ric Ocasek-led new wave band The Cars have reunited to record their first album in 23 years and may support it with a tour, Billboard.com has learned..."

A Tour???

How massively cool would that be?

:techman:

Wow I didn't think they'd do anything after Benjamin Orr (September 8, 1947 – October 3, 2000) passed away, I believe they were working on something up until then? could be wrong.

Wow. Listening to that made me feel like it was 1985 in my frat house all over again. I had a sudden urge to drink a six pack of beer and haze a pledge.

Presales have started for the tour in support of Move Like This.

There are seven shows listed so far on Ticketmaster. Many go on general sale Sunday.

I talked to my wife about the show in Oakland,

and she said.....

LET'S GO!

They sound....exactly the same.

I'm not sure if this is a strength or weakness. They're as catchy as ever and you could probably convince people this song happened 30 years ago, but it still seems that this song's reach would be limited to Cars fans.

After so many years away, if they came back and didn't sound exactly like The Cars, the fans who've been clamoring for a reunion would be turned off.

And here's the second official video "Sad Song". Strange that the band, outside of a couple pictures and those paper silhouettes, don't appear in either video.

I see Greg Hawkes will be playing bass, but without Orr will they still do "Just What I Needed," "Bye Bye Love," "Let's Go" etc.? I kind of hope not.

I hope they add dates, the ones closest to me are at times I can't go.

Fair enough. I don't know how concerned they are with reaching a new audience. This may all be just for fun. And let's face it: The Cars have a very distinctive sound. It's hard to get away from, even if you're trying.

I imagine the bass will be programmed when they play live. Ocasek has said they won't have someone else join the band. I doubt they will play any of Ben's songs, but you never know. I do hope they acknowledge him somehow.

And the biggest one of all, Drive.
