The Cardassian atmosphere and its sun type

Just remember, they didn't follow the same evolutionary process as life on Earth. As long as it follows a plausible sequence, it will be okay. You could have feathered creatures who feed milk to young that bud off them if you want.

The one thing I do tend to think--for the purposes of the Trekiverse--is that the evolution of the sentient species is not as random as one should otherwise expect due to the interference of the Progenitors. But as a general principle...and certainly IRL...what you say makes perfect sense and there is no reason why something like what you describe couldn't evolve if it fit that world.

In Kirsten Beyer's Children of the Storm, it is theorized that the Progenitors were conversing from their posteriors and there was apparently evidence to support the idea that the similarities were due to something else.

I don't pay that much attention to Treklit...I'm very "pick-and-choose" there. I haven't even been reading the current stuff. So whatever it says in that book won't be in Sigils.

(Heck, even for the earlier Treklit I do somewhat acknowledge, I changed a lot. NO dithparu to explain the Oralian Way, for instance. I threw that right out.)
