The Captain's new duds - a newbie tries his hand at contests...

KNH

Commander
Red Shirt
Hi, I'm the new guy. Chances are you haven't seen me around yet, but I hope we'll get along well. Figured I'd kick things off with contributing to the contest. Comments and feedback are welcome!

Very nicely done, with good presentation and a couple of nice little innovations.

I cant help but think a proper uniform would be more in order though, rather than a jumpsuit style for everyone on board. If I were captain of a warship or somesuch I'd want to avoid weaing overalls all day and go for something a little more in keeping with my position, like a trousers/jacket/shirt combination. You can sit in your office and work in shirtsleeves, but if you have to meet someone or appear at the viewscreen, you can throw the jacket on rather than look like a colourful mechanic. I'm not talking about a dress uniform for parades or whatever, just day to day work wear. As people get older and slightly less firm, sticking them in tight onesies is not going to look impressive, which may be why most admirals uniforms in Trek tend to have jackets.

^ So, why don't you do that for your entry? :D

KNH, nice! They kind of remind me of the US Navy's dress whites.

Seems I hit a good nerve there, I'm glad they find much approval. And now for the dumb question of the day, do I have to repost them into the sticky to get them entered into the contest?

As for the uniform/jumpsuit point that was brought up by The Axeman: MY design intention with them was, in a way, to combine design elements we know from DS9 uniforms as well as VOY uniforms and evolve things from there. The upper halves are meant to be jackets (that's why there's an off-colored part running down in the middle at front) like the ones Sisko and friends wore - just as the shoulder strip indicating divison is meant to be of similar tissue as the grey strip on DS9.

In hindsight, I probably should've tried to make the front look a bit more like a jacket zipper, but I wouldn't really know where to start off-hand.

No, you merely post a link to this thread into the sticky thread. I think you also have to send a copy of the image to Ptrope as well. I could be wrong on that part though.

To ensure that you're included in the contest poll, e-mail your final entry to Ptrope at gmail dot com by the end of the month.

BTW, nice uniform. :techman:
