The best episode of TNG - Part One

Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Battle
The Big Goodbye
11001001
Coming of Age
Heart of Glory
The Arsenal of Freedom

Taking out Hide and Q for two main reasons: Tasha crying in the penalty box, and creepy grown-up Wesley.

The Battle
The Big Goodbye
11001001
Coming of Age
Heart of Glory
The Arsenal of Freedom

Removing Where No One Has Gone Before. The Traveller struck me as too arrogant in this one, although to be fair, it has been about 20 years since I've seen it.

The Battle
The Big Goodbye
11001001
Heart of Glory
The Arsenal of Freedom

From what's left, I'm going to go with Coming Of Age simply because I'm not particularly endeared by the "Wesley" component of the story.

The Battle
11001001
Heart of Glory
The Arsenal of Freedom

I removed The Big Goodbye. As the voting has gone on, I've been re-watching some of season 1, and I have to say all the Dixon Hill scenes in this episode were just a little too plodding for me.

Edit: Although, this episode does have one little funny part. In the observation lounge after Picard's first foray into the Dixon Hill program, as he's explaining how real everything seemed, Crusher wipes the lipstick off Picard's face.

The funny part comes when Riker sees this and he gets that stupid grin on his face about the lipstick and you can just hear Riker thinking "that's the proper way to use a holodeck."

The Battle
11001001
The Arsenal of Freedom

Taking out Heart Of Glory. It just doesn't entertain as well as the other 3

11001001
The Arsenal of Freedom

Guess I'll eliminate The Battle. Premise had potential, but I didn't really care for the execution. Kinda slow for my liking, with poor Ferengi scenes.

See now, if I didn't already post, and these two episodes were remaining, I wouldn't be able to take out one of these as both episodes were entertaining!

Actually, you can post again because more than two other posters have eliminated episodes since your last post. However, you are too late because I'm now casting the final vote. The remaining episode is:

The Arsenal of Freedom!

I eliminated 11001001 because the Binaurs annoyed me.
Personally, I wish Heart of Glory was the final winner, however. That was always my favorite of the first season.

I was rooting for Arsenal the whole time.

I liked this thread because it was an excuse to watch Season 1 again.

I actually like that Arsenal & the Binars finished last. Those are probably my favorite from season 1

Encounter at Farpoint

Skin of Evil -> Sad episode. Sad the way that black slime thing killed Tasha, and sad how Picard left it there on the planet, all lonely and all. 'Nuff said.

Wow, this is what makes it such a good episode, the sadness, Picard's tough heartedness, that plus the antagonist is just so evil and unredeamable, that Crosby gives her only really good performance andalso the writing was better than par for what was generally a poor season.
