The best companion theme music

Of all the 3 main companions in NuWho I consider Martha's theme as the best, just as great as the Doctor's itself.

Rose's would be second, it is very conventional but still great.

Donna's is not bad either, although it kind of highlights her to much as comic relief I think.

What do you think and which earlier companions had also great themes? I haven't seen any classic Who unfortunately except the very first two or three episodes.

I like Martha's theme. It's not just something I associate with that character, but with all of nuWho. It's one of the most memorable pieces of music of that last few seasons.

*edited to add: Just went back and listened to Rose's theme. It's pretty good, too. A very nice piece of music.
I guess the only companion theme I don't care much for is Donna's theme. I just can't remember it from one moment to the next.

Heh. I remember when the big question was "Which Doctor has your favorite theme song?" How our choices have broadened, eh?

And I'll go with Martha's. Although, my absolute favorite two pieces for the series (besides the Eccleston theme song) is The Doctor's Song and the piece they played during the Gallifrey flashback...

Martha's Theme is my favorite as well. When the theme played in The Sontaran Stratagem when Martha is shown calling The Doctor, I had chills. Such a beautiful piece of music.

Martha's theme is the best, hands down.

Donna's is a lot of fun, a solid #2, and I feel it really reflects the character.

I also like Rose's theme, and it is almost a tie with Donna's on my list, but not quite, and thus the #1 companion ends up with the third best theme music.

My favorite is muchly "Martha's Theme." It really captures the spirit of adventure and wonder and awe that characterizes the series.

I also love "Rose's Theme." There's just something beautiful and primal about it, and something both joyous and sad.

Broadening the topic a bit, the Master's theme song is clearly the best -- "The Master Vainglorious" is WONDERFUL. (To say nothing of the tragedy of the Time Lords so well encapsulated in "This Is Gallifrey: Our Childhood, Our Home.") The Daleks' theme song in "Evolution of the Daleks" was pretty frickin' awesome, though -- even if the episode itself was not.

I find them all a bit sad, but then sadness is a recurring theme in this show. "they break my heart".

If I had to pick one, probably Rose's oooeeeeooo type theme.

Martha's theme is better than the character deserves, by contrast Donna's is overly comedic since it was only really written with the Runaway Bride in mind! Shame that-best companion gets the lousiest theme, lousiest companion gets the best!

That's actually "The Doctor's Theme." Though it was adapted to combine with a guitar and other instruments to create the theme for "Doomsday."

I assume what you mean is the music that plays in such scenes as when the Doctor describes feeling the rotation of the planet in "Rose" or when he steps between the fan blades in "The End of the World".

It's "The Doctor's Theme" on the soundtrack, but Gold used it heavilly whenever Bad Wolf was mentioned. It's rarely used post-Season 2 because the Doctor got a new theme for season 3. You can listen to an excerpt to the season four version of it on Amazon.com. (Track 11)


As for myself, I like "Martha's Theme" best.

Martha's theme is the best. I also love Rose's theme & A Noble Girl About Town.
Each theme suits the character.

Roses theme for me, love it! Followed by Martha's... I couldn't even think what Donna's theme was so that shows how much hers stands out!
