The Avengers 50th Anniversary of Steed and Mrs Peel 1965-2015

Evening everyone,

I'm hoping non-trek fan productions can go here, so mods feel free to move this to the correct category.

After sadly not acquiring the rights to the original series for a pilot back in 2011, we're back to produce a fan based tribute to the iconic pairing of John Steed and Mrs Peel, which celebrates 50 years this year.

To be produced to the tune of over £25,000, if not more, we will be presenting a rebooted re-telling of the 'The Cybernauts' episode in a short film, accompanied by several film clips, and a photo shoot to celebrate this anniversary.

There's little more I can say at this point, but I would like to provide updates over the course of pre-production, filming and post, via this thread to reach fans and interested parties.

The site is merely a place card at the moment but more will be added as we go long... and we even have new silhouette to mark the occasion The Avengers | Official Site.

We'll have more information later this weekend; this one's going to be fun.

As our introduction suggests this is the 50th anniversary of the first appearance of Emma Peel with John Steed, which is why we are producing this... as the tribute incorporates those characters. We are aware the 50th for the series in it's entirety was back in 2011. This is a different celebration, but for a much loved television, onscreen partnership.

We had originally pitched to produce a professional TV pilot for the 50th of the series several years ago, but we were not successful in acquiring the television rights and missed 'that' celebration... but 1965 was 50 years ago and another significant event in the series history as presented itself so we are using that as hook to produce a worthy tribute to 'this' event.

But appreciate you bringing that up so we can dispel any confusion.

Good on you mate. I'm a long time fan of ST, and The Avengers... is this the same group that put out that short video a few years ago?

It is indeed ;)

The production standards have improved as has production design, since that screen test was released a little while back.

The teaser trailer is now up on the site albeit it is a dreadful tease.

More details to follow, and you can follow updates on facebook and twitter.

Love the teaser!

My one claim to fame is that I've shaken hands with Dame Diana Rigg--she was Chancellor of the University of Stirling when I graduated :)

Many thanks for the replies, glad you enjoyed the teaser; and have to agree with you, the Rigg years are probably the mostly fondly remembered, series 4 was always my favourite, which has mostly inspired this tribute that is in the works, albeit our version will be in colour.

Should have some cast news by next week.

On a un-related note, and I'll throw this one out to everyone on this part of the forum; does anyone know how to get a video, website or hashtag trending. We're trying to get various bits and pieces trending ahead of the kickstarter campaign, but sadly the replies and retweets we've had for a teaser trailer and costume photo, I could count on my hand after two weeks, so not off to a terribly good start.

While 'The Avengers' is no where on the same level to Star Trek in terms of fan base; have any of the other productions here, faced similar difficulties in getting their productions trending? I'm open to any advice. Now I know it's early days, and we've only been out there 2 weeks, but I can't seem to pull any help from facebook groups, I've contacted three of the biggest Avenger ones on FB and neither have posted anything or offered to help in terms of reaching the fan base there. The teaser has just managed to muster 211 views on youtube, but even with all the right kind of meta-tags it's not moving fast enough.

While I didn't expect this to take off hugely, I'm stumped by the fact that it's not making any kind of impact not even on a small level, especially when I come across conversations on various forums where everyone wonders if this series could be brought back. When I think back to the dichotomy of conversations after Batman and Robin (1997), the years everyone wondered if they will ever get Batman realised properly on screen again, we got the incredible Batman Dead End (2003) ahead of Batman Begins.

So here we are, with this, in a world with virtually no fan based Avengers films, not even a studio backed one and the fan base is missing :-S Logically you'd assume that in a gap in the market so to speak, this would get tongues wagging, except it hasn't.

**By the way I'm not digging at Trek BBS here, as we've had a terrific response to this thread with 501 views, so many thanks to you all for that :) you all rock!

Hopefully you can see where I'm going with this, as without trending or enough followers it will be harder to stand out on the Kickstarter site once the campaign launches, as the site works off algorithms, so the more you trend, the more visible you are on their site the more likely you will reach with eyes attached to wallets/purses.

The campaign will feature a photoshoot with the cast, interviews, and a second small teaser with the cast this time in action, some of which we will leak before hand as we build up to launch but how can we hit as many people as possible with this stuff, to get this trending?

So to summarise; not complaining, just stumped, we want to bring a seriously good Avengers short to the audience as independent Star Trek films have raised the bar and we want to meet it... but with no trending we won't be able to raise the dough to meet the production standard; and as I mentioned earlier in this post open to advice.

Best,

M :)

I think people will want a bit more "proof of concept" once you reveal your casting. Specifically, a short video or two showing your principals interacting with each other in character.

The chemistry between Macnee and Rigg was something magical, and people will sense that the success of this project depends on whether that special spark is there with your actors. :)

Not only will the main cast be revealed this Sunday but also the concept behind the one-shots and the premise.

We'll give you a clue... it's not a continuation, a direct reboot or a remake...

'It's a prequel'.

Had it been a different spy film I would definitely say so, however, in view of the fact that creatively there are glaring similarities between Kingsman and certainly Steed of the Avengers 'The umbrella' for one... I think Kingsman has already filled the void, the appetite if you will for this type of movie, whilst also capitalising on the appetite we have for old style Bond movies.

Also chances are the option for a film franchise on the rights once owned by Weintraub or WB may have now returned back to Canal, after this duration of time since 1998, and they don't seem particular interested in seeing a reboot again.

I could be wrong and, the opposite happens if they see a commercially viable and profitable option; it will be interesting to see how well the Man from UNCLE movie does this year as they have loyally stuck to the sixties for the film's setting. I think from a creative standpoint some might plausible see that setting a second attempt an Avengers movie in the sixties might be a safe option. Where as a contemporary reboot may be deemed a risk regarding the material which was born out of sixties pop culture at its peak.

It's a topic that has been discussed at length and the film franchise has had a very long and difficult journey it took decades to get the first and only film on the screen and when the '98 film was unsuccessful it pretty much nailed the coffin down.

Who wants the get the breakdown of 'The Avengers' tomorrow?

If we can get up to 50 likes on the facebook fan page we will release the productions breakdown and premise tomorrow at 7pm GMT.

'923 views on this thread so far, 50 likes should be a walk in the park' ;)

Well I liked it (though to be fair, there's actually nothing there yet *to* like). Curious to see what you come up with though.
