Here's an interesting way to think of it--most internet fans seem to like DS9 best of modern Trek, but it's not really all that well liked outside of those circles--dvd sales, conventions, etc. The majority of Star Trek fans outside of the internet echo chamber seem to feel that it's not really very Trek-ish. Perhaps the hard-core DS9ers should have a little more sympathy for the "in the minority" early Enterprise fans. "Ah"--but, you'll say,"DS9 was quality, and Enterprise wasn't." But that's really all just a matter of opinion and taste. DS9 bored me, Enterprise didn't. For others, Enterprise bored them, and DS9 didn't. There isn't a right or wrong here--it's all a matter of opinion.
It's never nice to have "few people agree with you, you are in the minority" thrown in your face over something like a t.v. show. Folks tend to get defensive--it's human nature, I guess.
