I was expecting someone to start an tribute thread for Arthur C Clarke but shockingly none has appeared so I have started this one.
I understand Gene Roddenberry was inspired by his writings to create Star Trek.
It is just to say how much I was effected by his novels,in particular the novels "Childhood's End" and "The City and the Stars",and that inspirational passage at the end of the latter. These novels I read many times when I was young.
I also loved his humourous short stories and numerous essays and writings.
Most important of all I also loved his love for humanity.
Other posters feel free to express your appreciation of this great writer.
