The anniversary special will be the BBC's last 3D production

I've helped with a 20-part series for 3Net and it was a lot of work. Personally I found it a fad and 4K more interesting to work with.

...wasn't it also the first?

Either way, I'm happy to hear this. I've never liked 3D and I've been impatiently waiting for its demise.

The BBC is showing some of the tennis in 3D as it did for the olympics. I personally don't mind 3D but feel they should be the option of 2d (2hich there was) for those that don't want 3D.

It seems that they're calling it a day (for now - the full story says that they're not abandoning 3-D, just pausing it for three years, which not-so-coincidentally means until just after the next renewal of the BBC Charter in 2016) because the viewing figures for BBC 3-D transmissions were minimal, even in 3-D equipped homes.

...and here across the pond, ESPN is dumping their 3D sports network, which is being widely seen as a death-knell for the whole 3D TV genre for now.
