Has anyone watched that?
I have not seen it yet, but from what I gather it is quite different from the book and is even worse.
I finished reading the book, for the second time, last week. I hadn't read it since shortly after it came out. Now I'm over halfway through reading The Alienist again. You can read them out-of-order without having great difficulties. Anyhow, they have been much worse than I remembered from the first time around. Very contrived, implausible, and containing various outright errors. I would have to say that the best parts involve the background details of New York City in the late 19th century.
I ordered a copy of the third book, Surrender, New York, from one of the thrifty bookstores online, for under five bucks. That should arrive this coming week. I'm not exactly expecting an improvement in quality over the first two books.
If anyone has watched this second series, please chime in with your opinions.
Discussion of the books would be welcome, too.
