"The Amazing Race Australia" Official Thread

Well Channel 7 was touting this for earlier in the year - so much so that the regular US version was shunted over to 72 or 7Mate or whatever that digital channel that shows "I Dream of Jeannie", Lucy and "The Jetsons" repeats is called, guaranteeing that lots of viewers who don't have digital yet could not see it. The Oz version never appeared but I noticed this weekend the tv ads are ramping up again, seeming to be imminent.

Not sure if Phil will be hosting it or not.

In the break between seasons of the US version I tried watching the Asian show for a TAR fix but a few of them(Indians, IIRC)were just so damned obnoxious I stopped watching.

It will be interesting to see how this version goes.

I won't be watching it, despite loving the show. I'll stick to the real version (on 7mate), rather than watch a cheap Aussie pretend version. Even the ads are enough to make me cringe, with the kangaroos jumping everywhere. They've been showing the ads for months on 7mate.

I had an opportunity to get onto the Amazing Race, and I missed it??? Crushed!

Well that's what I get for only watching the footy on telly

I remember hearing about it last year, but as I don't watch channel 7 (or it's digital network). I won't be watching it.

I'll probably only watch it if it is against weak stuff on the other channels or in the ad breaks. Hopefully it's better than Australian Survivor, but it surely won't be as bad as Live From Planet Earth.

Haven't been watching the proper one either purely because of its time slot.

it surely won't be as bad as Live From Planet Earth.

Oh GOD - That was AMAZINGLY bad.

Even though I have liked his writing throughout the years. I find Ben Elton as a person to be a complete and utter wanker.

The irony with this new show of his was that Elton took such delight in sweeping away the likes of Benny Hill and Dick Emery and all those old "T and A" comics from the 60's and 70's. Cut forward to 2011 and his new show for Channel 9 is a lame modern day rehash with some bimbo playing Nigella Lawson insinuating how big her tits are.

Piss WEAK, Elton.

Fuck off and go back to England.

Has it started yet? I'm probably going to check it out because I've seen the "spoiler" map and know where they've been and I'm looking forward to one particular stop.

Is the US edition airing there at the moment? I'm assuming they're just going to wait for that to end?

They're airing the US one about a week behind. I can't remember the ads, but I'm guessing the Australian version will be on regular Channel 7 instead. They'll probably still wait until we're done with the US version though.

Episode aired, and while I'm not quite feeling the teams, I think going to Indonesia was enough to revive my interest in the franchise again.

I like how they have their own cowboys though. I wonder if they told them to wear the hats too. :p

So, I take it no one is watching it?

Anyway, I just had to post about the ending to the latest episode... that was the strangest ending to a race that I've seen in any English language version of the show. Yikes.

Also, if you're an Australian or "Asian", you pretty much have a heads up if you watch all the versions of the shows - they're recycling tasks, probably to save money and planning, so it's possible to basically cheat your way through all the intellectual challenges if you studied enough.

Random bump now that it's over. It was a tight finish with the expected ending... anyone who doesn't prepare for the quiz at the end is really not paying attention to the show or doing any research.

I'm disappointed that they didn't go to North America as rumoured though... it seemed strange for them to not go all the way around the world anyway.

And they also had their own version of the cowboys. Surely the producers told them to wear their hats just like the American cowboys.

I watched an episode a few weeks ago. I do find it surprising they didn't visit USA. They are currently taking applications for next year. I know two family members who are interesting in being contests. Hopefully get on the show.

If they have some kind of "character" gimmick, they'll probably get a leg up. Outside of China Rush, that seems to be how the shows have been cast recently. Better yet if they can wear some kind of hat while racing.
