Keep in mind: Paramount doesn't care whether you accept it as a reboot, a reimagining or at all.

Neither does the general public, nor should they. This is only a movie to them. If it doesn't work, they'll take it as a loss and people will move on with their lives.

The one thing some fans are failing to realize is that the alternate timeline storyline is actually for their benefit and theirs alone. Are they trying to have it both ways? I think it's more like a choice. A wink to people who've been following along with this fictional universe for all these years. Why feel insulted?

Because it's a transparent and cowardly way to attempt to have their cake and eat it too - they get their reboot, and they're foolish enough to think they'll satisfy all the old fans who normally wouldn't go for a reboot. This is no more a nof to the fans than TATV was a valentine to the fans.
