The Adventures of Argus: Nuclear Time

Trek

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I've started posting a new Star Trek: The Adventures of Argus story at USSArgus.com

Nuclear Time - Trapped in Earth's past, Captain Lex and the surviving crew of the USS Defender must try to survive a nuclear holocaust that will kill millions while ensuring history runs its course. Back in the 24th Century, Commander Patel and the crew of the USS Argus investigate a three hundred year old ship that appears to be the source of a mysterious signal.

You can check it out here. The Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 have been posted so far. Let me know what you think. :)

I read it. I have a taste for this era myself and I like what you are doing-you have built a deep history of the times, which is important to make the tale believable. Keep writing and I'll keep reading.

Thanks for the kind words, Mistral.

All twenty two(!) chapters are written and I'm posting them over time. The prologue and first fifteen chapters are being posted over six days (April 26th to May 1st), in line with the events of the story. The remaining 6 chapters will be added through the rest of May, starting on Monday 5th with chapter 16 and I'll update this thread every time a new chapter is added.

Today - chapters 3 & 4 have been posted.

ok, now you must post faster-I'm in too deep to turn back now! I am really enjoying this and would love to read straight through-is there a reason you are dragging the posts out?

At the moment I'm posting daily to be in sync with the story (today's chapters taking place on 29th April 2053).

I usually post weekly (which is how the rest of the story will be posted after the countdown finishes) to increase the visibility of my work and because I've found that most of my readers don't like large updates of text in one go.

If it's any consolation though, tomorrows update will be 6 chapters!

The release of the different chapters by date is so clever - so clever in fact I didn't realise it - doh! - Anyway, the story is fantastic and is one of those clever reveal something of significance in the Federation's history and crew ends caught up in the events. :bolian:

(Slaps head) Doh! I only miss the obvious and the subtle. Ok, thanks and I'll try to be patient.(Hops frantically on one foot, then the other.):)

I wondered if I was being too subtle. :)

Anyway, today's update has been posted: I've added the chapters that take place on April 30th 2053 - so chapters 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 have all be uploaded!

Just finished Chap 13-didn't see that thing with Charlotte coming at all. Chilling. Added grit to the story.

Yeah, it was fairly brutal, but not as bad a I originally planned. My editing notes mark that section for a rewrite with Lisley also loosing an eye, but on reflection I thought it was a bit much.

Glad you're still enjoying it. :)

Last of the daily updates - Chapters 14 and 15 have been uploaded.

From here on it's a weekly update (starting this Saturday).

I'm glad to see that Argus is back on track again. I have been a long time fan since the beginning and its nice to see you workin on it again Alex. Goin to go read those chapters now to catch up.

Thanks fleetcaptain. It's been great fun writing the Argus characters again and I've got a much better grip on them now that I had when the original version of this story was posted. (10 years ago!)

I've started work on the next story ("Mind War"), so hopefully I should be able to go straight into that when "Nuclear Time" completes.

I have to say, I love this verison a lot better than the older ones. Still has the same storyline but a whole lot different. Can't wait for ch 17 either.

Sweet-you gotta love the ol' DTI! Waiting for Ch 17.

There will be plenty more with the DTI (Kate Sheridan has a long history with them). As antagonists I think they work really well and are lots of fun to write.

That the man reason I started the Relaunch. The original Nuclear Time was only about 7,000 words in length, while the new version is around 30,000,. That's allowed me to flesh it out more and and fix a couple of the issues with the original.

It's Saturday, so that means a new update.

Chapter 17 has been uploaded!

Just went back and read your first 2 stories, then got caught up here. I really like the way you began laying out the storyline in advance of Nuclear Time-very clever and well thought out. I have 2 questions-The image of Lex that Sara saw in the ruins remains unexplained and What the heck kind of paradox brought Kate Sheridan into existence?
I hope answers are coming....
