The 25th anniversary of the 25th Anniversary special

Last year marked the 25th anniversary of one of the two best specials in Trek history before special features became common in blurays and DVD. The 1988 special included the first color airing of The Cage, and this one, a 2 hour long special with no episode, just a retrospective hosted by Shatner and Nimoy. It includes a segment on STNG during the height of it's popularity and the upcoming STVI.

Both were produced by Stephen Wolcott, and he makes a surprise comment in the comments section of this Youtube vdeo with a few tidbits from the shoot. He later produced some VAM for the aforementioned blurays and DVDs.

I remember watching that special. Notwithstanding the death of Gene Rodenberry, 1991 was a great year for Star Trek fans. TOS was still in syndication, TNG had just started being syndicated, so one could tape their favorite episodes, there was one final original crew movie coming, TNG had many years left to it, and Star Trek merchandise was exploding. I still have some of my 25th anniversary cards.

For the time, it had some rare behind-the-scenes STNG stuff. I remember thinking: Okuda is showing us new props! lol
