The 2008 N.Y. Met Thread

John Maine had a great outing yesterday against Houston but today is gonna be a big day. Johan Santana is gonna pitch against the World Champion Red Sox and today also marks the return of Carlos Beltran and Delgado to the lineup.

Yeah Maine is looking real hot this spring!

Back to back great starts by Big Game Maine and Santana. I could get used to all of this great pitching. All I need is for Pedro to be Pedro and I`ll be a very happy camper.

As for the hitting Carlos Delgado looks like hes in midseason form after todays outing. I wonder who has any first basemen available on the trading block.

I love how Jon Lester matched Johan pitch for pitch today, against a much harder line up. That kid is gonna be special.

Looking forward to the season. Hopefully they will stay healthy and wipe out last year's disgraceful collapse.

86 was a long time ago :(

Yeah, I'm the wrong kind of NY-NE hybrid. I root for the Mets and the Patriots. I've had a bad few months.

Ew, Mets. I dislike the Mets. And the Braves, and the Yankees, and the Red Sox, and pretty much every team that isn't the Phillies. The Pirates, though, I can tolerate - just because they're so pathetic.

Actually, I think the Phils and the Pirates combined for an 1-9 start last year? Way to go, Pennsylvania! :techman:

Its offical. Johan Santana is gonna open the season for los Mets on the mound at Dolphins stadium. (I know, your all shocked.) Looking ahead at the schedule it looks likes Pedro Martinez will start opening day at Shea and John Maine is gonna pitch on 4/9 which is important because I have tickets to that game.

I also have tickets to 5/18 at Yankee Stadium and I hope Santana or Martinez pitches that day, because I really wanna see them kill the Yanks in person.

^I read that same article. Still looks like they haven't picked a #5 starter yet. El Duque with his new leg kick was not effective. If he can tune up his new mechanics though I'll take him over Pelfrey, who I don't trust yet.

What’s the difference between the Phillies’ pitching staff and “Kristen” Ashley Dupree?
One gets paid thopusands of dollars a night to let men score at will in all kinds of interesting ways, and the other is a prostitute.

I love the internet. Speaking of this wonderful place, here is the Mets projected pitching rotation for the 2008 season

March 31: Johan Santana at Marlins
April 1: Pedro Martinez at Marlins
April 2: Oliver Perez at Marlins
April 4: John Maine at Braves
April 5: Fifth Starter at Braves
April 6: Johan Santana at Braves
April 8: Pedro Martinez vs. Phillies

The only bad thing about the rotation is that the Phillies are gonna miss Johan Santana at Shea and will get their first look at the future Cy Young winner in Philly. The good news is that Pedro is gonna get the nod for opening day at Shea and our two aces will both get to pitch on opening day. Santana in Miami and Pedro in Queens

I'm surprised no Mets fan bumped this thread (or mentioned it in the MLB thread). The Phillies are at Shea for the first time this season. What is this, the 9th straight win?

Shhhh! Don't remind Mets fans of 2007! They're still rather bitter...

But since you asked - it is nine in a row now!

In the sense that he pitched well (i.e. no runs and few baserunners) and should have gotten the win (because the batters supported him) but the bullpen fucked it up.

I'm mostly upset because this cost me another win decision for my fantasy team (the Braves did the same yesterday with Glavine).

If you picked Tom Glavine for your fantasy team, I feel for you. Give`em back Glavine needs to be taken out Ol Yella style.

I'm just mad at the Mets' bullpen for ruining Oliver Perez's strong outing.

Perez has looked good in both outings this year. I am really hoping he realizes his full potential this year. He showed some real glimpses last year but also some inconsistency.

Their bullpen is not pretty this year. Schoenweiss couldn't get my grandmother out.

Bullpen problems for the Mets and everyone else:klingon:

Looks like Delgado is off to another slow start and could be on a steep decline:(

Not worried about Beltran- he will wind up .270, 30 hrs and 100 rbis:p

And he`ll probably be close to 30 stolen bases. Beltran is the quietest superstar, I`ve ever seen. Sometimes I forget he is on this team and every other time I see him he is also striking out looking at strike 3 yet he always puts up his numbers
