The next chapter in the The Fall saga is coming our way on September 24th, penned by Una McCormack. Once again she is going to tell us a story about the Cardassians, a species and culture she has done much to flesh out in her past works, to general acclaim. The pairing of everyone's favorite tailor and fashion-conscious, if stingy on material Jean-Luc Picard sounds like a highlight.

Blurbfall:

Cardassia Prime is home to a prideful people who, for centuries, forged alliances with those they believed would strengthen them and their place in the Alpha Quadrant, and expanded their empire at great cost to other worlds. For generations, dissenting voices were silenced by either fear or an early grave. When their wartime ally, the Dominion, suddenly turned on them, seeking to transform Cardassia into a tomb for every last member of their race, their old adversary—the United Federation of Planets— put an end to the carnage, and even now works to help rebuild Cardassia Prime.

To celebrate this alliance, the Castellan of the Cardassian Union is to welcome the Federation president to Cardassia Prime. As a symbol of this deepening friendship, the U.S.S. Enterprise-E is tasked to carry the Cardassian ambassador to the Federation back home. For his part, Ambassador Elim Garak is working with Captain Jean-Luc Picard to oversee the diplomatic reception that will commemorate the last of Starfleet’s personnel finally leaving the homeworld. However, there are malevolent forces at work, who even now strive to “restore Cardassia to its proper place and glory,” and are willing to do anything to achieve their goal....

I am really looking forward to this book. McCormack's Cardassian stories have been my some of my favorite in trek lit. And anything Garak is bound to be interesting.

I've only read Hollow Men so far based on a recommendation from here, and it was terrific, so I'm really looking forward to when I eventually get around to this one, too ...

I highly recommend The Lotus Flower, and also The Neverending Sacrifice! Both are really great.

[ Had to stop myself from writing 'The Final Sacrifice'. That would be a different kind of great... ]

Una McCormack is an amazing author, and I am very much looking forward to this one!

Ooh this is gonna be good. Part 1 was great, the last Una McCormack book was pretty fantastic, good recipe for a fun read. Plus, i really love these guys →→ :cardie:

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack

Also, I have to say, Garak and Picard and lots of talking? SO EXCITED for this one! No one can turn a phrase like Jean-Luc, unless it's Garak. I can't wait for them to face off verbally!

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack

Great interview!

I am really excited to see those two together. I can't tell if they'd get along fabulously, both being classy gentlemen, or loathe each other due to being complete opposites on the hero/anti-hero spectrum.

And McCormack seems to be the perfect author for the story, too. Evidence of fine editing decisions, that.

I didn't realise Picard was an anti-hero ! :)

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack

While the cover looks bland online, in person the cover looks downright ugly and could easily be called the "Worst" book cover of the year.

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack

It's pretty bad, yeah, the ship just isn't integrated well into the scene at all.

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack

The online image doesn't show everything, as there is some more detail in the background, but it doesn't help.

It does look a bit like a photoshop crime. Like someone took a wallpaper sized star background, and then squished it together to fit the book's confines.

Can't wait to see what the cross cult cover will be though!

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack - Review Thread (Spoilers!

I'm really enjoying the parts where Garak is writing his letters to Dr. Bashir, however, I'm finding that the third-person narrative sections are a bit rough and don't seem to be as well done as the "letters".

Re: TF: The Crimson Shadow by Una McCormack - Review Thread (Spoilers!

^You know, being a thread discussing the new book with spoilers in the title, placing things, especially things that aren't spoilerish under spoiler tags is pretty redundant.

Yes you may get the odd person complaining you've ruined the book and you shouldn't post spoilers uncoded in here, but if they haven't read the book and don't want to be spoiled, they shouldn't really be in here!
