Texas Crash

Gil T.Azell

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
NA$CAR Rookie Micheal McDowell survived this scarry crash earlier today. and walked away. Listen to to crowd go silent, when he first hits.
this will take your breath away

Heading into Turn 1 on his second qualifying lap, McDowell's No. 00 Toyota twitched, then shot up the track as he tried to catch the spin. The rookie slammed nearly head-on into the SAFER barrier, then spun upside down for several hundred yards before the car began a series of at least eight barrel rolls, coming to rest right-side up on the backstretch

Wow, Michael McDowell is one lucky guy. Goes to show how far racing has come in terms of safety. Five years ago, we might be saying something different.

I saw that and man that was a hell of a crash. It seemed like he flipped 10 times or something and I can't believe it walked away almost unscathed and smiling about it. I guess any critics of the new car and now shove it because it definitely is safe. Still, that Crash had shades of Dale Sr. written all over it, especially with the impact into the wall.

Wow. I hadn't seen that yet.

That is one nasty, nasty crash. Doesn't look like there's much of that car left, and yet he walks away. That video says a hell of a lot about just how many strides have been made in safety in recent years. With that angle of impact, I'd bet that that HANS device saved his life. Even with the safer barrier, that's still a hell of a hard lick.

Saw the crash as well. It's a testament that the COT was developed for this type of contingency, protecting the driver as much as possible. If it were the old car, we might be talking injuries or worse.

his hit was Harder than Earnhardt's.
I heard on Sirius that the car slowed at least 70 mph in an instant,
were as Sr's might have slowed about half that,
thankfully there was a Randy LaJoie seat in the car.
