Tell us about your presents!

This is a thread to talk about and post pictures of your presents!

I had the good fortune to open a present early (yay!) and we also have a couple "us" presents that aren't/can't be wrapped.

My early present was World of Goo. Oh man, is it fuuuun! I must say I'm a natural :D though I was stumped a couple of times...it's so fun, I definitely recommend it :bolian:

Our early "us" present was an Apple TV. We're looking into jumping over an entire technology - HDDVD and Bluray disc players - and going straight to pure digital. There aren't as many selections available as on disc, but the selection is increasing very quickly. Plus, you get to watch YouTube videos on the Apple TV, and YouTube just added a HD option. Sweet!

What about you? Any early presents, or early celebrations?

We are doing a Secret Santa grab bag thingy this year in attempts to save money. $30 limit, and you only buy for one person.

I have my uncle...who I see maybe once a year. I still have no idea what to buy for him.

I don't get any presents myself, but for my son:

A Wii game system
Clone Wars for Wii
Force Unleashed for Wii
(all of the above were 'early' Christmas presents)

The next 3 books in the Bone series that he's reading
Wii sports pack
Wii points

From Family members:

Guitar Hero for Wii
Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii
The Dark Knight
Prince Caspian

From 'Santa':

Star Wars Lego
Rock Band for Wii
Extra Wii remote and nunchuck
Build your own lightsaber kit
Assorted action figures
and many stocking stuffers

Nah..he ain't spoiled

My wife got for me a yearlong discount card for EBGames / GameStop, and the Jurassic Park movies on DVD. I got her the fourth season of Doctor Who and ... well, she's a member on this board, so I really can't say what the other one is!

Well, I have an idea what some of the presents are so:-

Dark Knight DVD
Bones S3 DVD
Gears of War: Aspho Fields novel

and off my boss, some puzzles:)

So far, I've gotten only one gift early: season 2 dvds of Magnum PI. (yay!)

I got a birthday gift (three months late) just last week--a board game called 25 Words or Less. I'm hoping I will get a chance to play it with someone soon.

On Tuesday, I will (be forced to) visit my sister in law and her family, and we will exchange gifts. I'm not anticipating much, as they only shop at Walmart or the Dollar store. My mother in law usually just gives cash. She just hands out a check and says, "Here, take it." Not real big on the whole "holiday spirit," my mother-in-law.

I didn't get my 2 gifts yet, but I did pick them out. But I'm old fashioned and going to wait till Christmas Eve/Day to talk about them.

I'm such a tease...

One of the biggest reasons I'm not a huge fan of Christmas is that people ask for specific gifts and then expect people to buy those gifts for them.

I don't think I've asked for anything for Christmas since I stopped writing letters to Santa Claus.

I believe gifts should come from the heart and should be because someone knows something will make you happy. But as soon as the recipient makes a list with things to buy, the magic is ruined for me.

I generally agree. But I will try to give them a general idea if they ask me, just to make it easier on them, because I always ask people "What stores do you like" Something like that, keeps it general and open but points me in a certain direction.

I never ask for anything, and I never ask people what they want. If I can't figure out something to buy them, I just don't get them anything.

I hate that I've become bitter about this holiday, but I would much rather spend time having fun with people than being forced to spend money on them just because the calender says December 25th.

I see where you're coming from on that. Sometimes I'll just get everyone the same thing, like an Elvis bobblehead. Something that really says "Ya, JW gave me that.....:shifty:"

I have nothing to report as yet, but I did put World Of Goo in my Amazon Shopping Cart. :D

I'm pretty sure I'll get Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls and probably the second season of Kung Fu. I've kind of got my fingers crossed that I'll get that hardcover Don Martin set.

Wow, you've got great taste!! :) :) We have all three seasons of Kung Fu in our hard (non-digital) library. And you'll love World of Goo :D

JW and Rojo, I understand where you're coming from. I was a divorced kid, and my mom always worked off a list from my brother and I, while my dad always refused to do so. It was such a sweet moment when my dad and stepmom would get me something that was more "me" than I could have possibly put on a list.

In that vein, I have to say that SPOCKED is AWESOME with gifts. He got me a Kindle, and then World of Goo. I asked to open it early because I wanted to enjoy it the whole week that I get off for Christmas. ;) Otherwise we'd have waited for Christmas day.

The kids are going to be psyched when they open their Wii, with each getting a game at his or her age/skill level. And I might be able to master one or two of the games and play with them for a change. Hubby is getting a pretty good GPS device - I'm particularly proud of myself for that one, as he is a gadget guy.

I just made sugar free, lowfat raspberry mini cheesecakes for our babysitter, who is on a very strict low sugar diet. I think she'll be pleased.

I feel really good this year about being creative and sticking to a realistic budget.

The kids have been unusually tight-lipped this year. So I don't know what is still wrapped.

But I did get to open two of them early - a wii fit and Lost season 4.

Since the girls have been trying to play my trumpet and a friends flute we got them lessons on DVD. My youngest (6) has really been wanting to learn guitar so we bought her an acoustic one with DVD lessons.

I feel very similar to you. Last year I was pulling my hair out, trying to explain my feelings to my family and they were like "...but what do you want?". This year I have given up: no gifts from me. That should get the message across, hopefully not in a Bah Humbug way (and it is not Bah Humbug; I love Xmas, just not what it has become).

I would love it if we had a Christmas that wasn't at all about gifts, but more about family and friends.

The only early present I've got (apart from random boxes of chocs, etc, etc) is a bottle of 1970 Château Léoville Las Cases. Haven't opened it yet though (as I said in the Christmas booze thread, I'll open it with the friend who gave it to me, the next time we do dinner).

Then, make it so. You could, in lieu of gifts, make a donation to a meaningful charity on someone's behalf, maybe a homeless shelter or a food bank. It's less Bah Humbug than, No presents for you! and more in the spirit of giving that you're trying to reclaim.

I'm not doing the Christmas thing this year so I opened everything early.

My sister got me Wrath of Khan and DS9 S5 on DVD. This is why she is the favourite sister. I got her Audition and Death Note - but the place I ordered it from won't get them to me until January :(
