Television Remotes

With every cordless phone I've ever seen, there's a button on the base unit that will cause toe phone to make noise so it's easier to find when it gets lost.

Why don't TV remotes have this kind of technology?

If it was 15 years ago, I wouldn't care. I'd just walk to the TV and do whatever needs to be done. In more recent years however, the remote is needed for full functionality.

My TV, I can actually do everything without the remote normally, but the buttons don't work correctly because it's semi-broken. The volume buttons work, but the others don't.

My VCR has buttons for tapes (stop, rewind, fast-forward, stop/eject, record) and for changing the channel, but I need the remote for anything else.

My DVD player has three buttons on it. If I don't have the remote, it's pretty much unusable.

So yeah, why the hell don't they make lost remotes easier to find?

The best thing you can do is what gas stations do. Just tie a hubcap to your remote and it will never get lost!

How often do you lose your remote? Maybe you should clean your living room? Do you take your remote out of the TV room? If so, why would you do that?

You could try what I do. I set the remotes on the end-table next to the couch. I suppose I could make beeping noises while reaching for it.

I'll clean up when I'm good and ready and not a moment before!

I'm one of those people that keep things very disorganized yet I seem to know where everything is. Personally, it's not too much of a problem for me. When I'm looking for something, immediately I remember its location within a few square feet and then it doesn't take long to find it. However, I know everyone isn't like that, and that I'm not the only one that own remote-operated devices.

Yes, I started this thread after misplacing one of my remotes. It took me all of 30 seconds to find it. I then realised that having some sort of function to help locate lost remotes would make sense, and why they don't already have them. So, I came here and posted a thread about my idea because I crave attention.

Hey, an honest self-assesment. At least you got that going for you. That puts you ahead of, well, damn near everyone.

To answer your question, the tech does exist. The blind and elderly use it. I'm sure there are others, too.

I am definitely absent-minded to the point where I will pick something up and drop it in another location without realizing it at all. I've found the tv remote in the fridge before with no memory of placing it there!

Does anyone remember those locator keychains the Sharper Image used to have? They advertised them as something you could used to find your keys, remote, cell phone, etc. But they only ever showed them attached to a set of keys. I don't know how they proposed attaching them to other objects, but the basic principle behind it was nice even if the product itself was largely useless.

What did I say ? WOMEN NEVER TOUCH THE REMOTE!!!!

:p

while cumbersome, might I suggest getting one of those things the people get who frequently lose their keys? They attach it to their keychain - they come in various sizes, shapes and styles, I'm sure and attach it to the remote. That way, when the remote gets lost, you can clap your hands, whistle or make whatever noise the device requires so you can find it.

edit:
