Teenage Alien Ninja Turtlepods - Production Shutdown.

Paramount has shut down production of Michael Bay's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and pushed back the release date by five months. This comes on the heels of the controversial statements made by Bay suggesting that the origins of the Turtles will be altered to an alien one and of disappointing returns for the movie "Battleship."

This is the first time I have heard of the project. I did not like Michael Bay's treatment of Transformers so thank god Paramount pulled the plug on his version of TMNT.

I'm a little baffled by the announcement that they're pushing the release date down a year in light of the statement that the entire thing got canned. Is this Paramount hedging their bets in case they change their minds at a later date?

Sounds like they're just slowing things down, going to have a rewrite or two done to see if the project is worth pursuing. It doesn't sound like they had a cast or were ready to start shooting, they just want to pull back a bit and make sure it is worth making the movie.

Yeah, and I hope they do reconsider the origins of the Turtles and how they move forward but at the same time it's odd that Box Office dud "Battleship" would make them nervous, did they honestly think that was going to have mass appeal? A mediocre board game people played when they were kids is hardly going to have the same built in fan base that a once very popular comic book/cartoon series has.

Michael Bay takes a dump in it?

Thank goodness the studio had enough sense to nuke this. Bay's ideas were terrible. It seemed like he had a total lack of respect for the franchise.

I loved the CGI treatment the Turtles got a few years ago and I never understood why it didn't continue. They'd never looked better - including the original series and the live action film foolishness.

Simply put the studio that made the movie, Imagi, spent too much money and barely made a profit. They went on to give the same treatment to Astro Boy and Gatchaman aka G-Force aka Battle of the Planets. Astro Boy was released in 2009 but was a huge flop. Unfortunately, the company ran out of funds and closed in 2011. All that we will ever see of the G-Force movie are the two trailers Imagi produced.
