Tyler Posey (The young actor who "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer originally envisioned as 'Jacob') will play 'the Michael J.Fox character' in MTV's small-screen "Teen Wolf". The series, said to be less campy and more in the vein of dark teen drama "The Vampire Diaries", will see Posey play a dorky high-school student who gets a rush of new powers, including the ability to attract girls, after a wolf attack. Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O'Brien have also been cast in the series, which is set to premiere on the box next year.
“It has more of an ‘American Werewolf in Paris’ feel to it.”
The show will be written by Criminal Minds creator Jeff Davis.
"Wolf" is executive produced by Davis, Marty Adelstein and Rene Echevarria.
Although the original film was a PG plot, MTV Senior Vice President Liz Gateley hinted the series might be a bit darker.
MTV has assembled the acting pack for "Teen Wolf," its reinvention of the 1985 movie.
Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Crystal Reed and Dylan O'Brien have been cast in the pilot presentation penned by "Criminal Minds" creator Jeff Davis.
Production is slated for fall 2011.

Well I can't blame MTV Networks for wanting a property like this on their network.
The Twilight film series is so popular and a moneymaker. The Vampire Diaries series on The CW network caters to the same MTV audience. Choosing 2011 for production to begin is pretty late though. They really should be in production in 2010.

Remaking old stuff is popular. Teen angst plus vampires and/or werewolves is popular. Undoubtedly, somewhere in Hollywood a studio executive wet his pants with joy at the notion of doing both at the same time. :p

My initial gut reaction was "Um, why?" but after reading that they want to make it less campy and darker, it could work.

I just don't know if people can take a werewolf playing high school basketball today...
