Ted Kennedy Has Died- Be Respectful

If you don't like Ted please don't post in here. This is neither the time nor the place for that. I was sad to see the other thread get locked so let's set a rule in this one: no bashing Kennedy.

Anyhow, I was surprised to hear it as I thought he was getting better. :( I was really hoping he'd be around to see health care reform but, alas, he was not.

Ted Kennedy was not a perfect man, maybe not even a great man, but I do know that he was a good man and American government is less without him. RIP Ted, I'll miss ya.

Rest in peace, sir. Your legacy, IMO, has out-shined your brothers' even though they never got the chance you did.

I had thought he was doing better, but I guess not. These things happen. He lived a long and interesting life. I hope he feels he accomplished some good in his time here. There will never be another quite like him.

Rest in peace, sir! You were an honorable man who fought for health care reform for all of us, for that, I will never forget you and honor your legacy forever as long as I live. -salute-

Actually, I am going to repost this from TNZ because this is affecting me more than it should:

This hits me hard for a few reasons.

5 years ago, I had brain surgery to remove a tumor. Still ticking, but you never really recover.

In those intervening years, I had no health insurance (because the jobs I worked didn't offer it) so Health Care Reform is close to my heart.

Lastly, I finally graduated college this May from my Grandmother's Alma Mater. She was proud of me for going. She never got to see me graduate because she died a year earlier. Just like the Senator died right before he got to see at least some major Health Care Reform come to pass.

I know that he wasn't a perfect man (or even close to it), but it is hitting me a bit hard right now because of the above circumstances.

RIP. :(

I missed that post in TNZ, Brew, and I'm sorry to hear about that but I am glad you're doing okay now!

The more I see these crazy right wing wackos talking the more I think death panels and funded abortions looks like a good idea.

Pot, meet kettle.

The first quote was from TNZ. This is Misc. Plus, this thread is about the death of a real man while my post in tNZ was a joke. Sorry, but they don't match up.

A nice thing to be said about the accolades coming in for Kennedy upon his passing is that he had reason to know while alive how beloved and admired he was by family, colleagues and friends who actually knew him (as opposed to the invective-and-vitrol-laced direct-mail and Internet fundraisers and chattering classes who used him as a boogeyman and strawman respectively). While anyone who accomplishes much in public life gets targeted by their fair share of hyperbolic and personal criticism, Kennedy was spoken of graciously by many of his colleagues as his decades of service wore on...including those on the other side of the aisle.

What happens in TNZ stays in TNZ. Capice?

Woah. Huge rule violation. Well done.

I guess the B stands for "banned."

I'm a little confused why the other thread was closed.

With that said, and trying to keep the topic on hand, RIP to him and condolences to the family, or whoever is left (Not a slap, just curiousity).

One sister is left, isn't she?

The Kennedys probably did more to advance the public interest and the well-being of the economically and politically disadvantaged than any other wealthy family in our history. A remarkable dynasty.

Yes. One sister. Jean Kennedy-Smith who was number 8 out of the nine.

Ted was 9.

Not shocking at all, he looked horrible.

Maybe now Obama won't pussy out of health care reform.

Also Biden talked about how Kennedy was there for him after his wife and a child died in a car crash... yeah... not a good idea there Biden.

I never voted for him, protest vote, but he did a lot of damn work, and we really needed him now for health care.
