TCM Remembers

So I recently discovered that Turner Classic Movies does these fantastic montages every year, in the style of the Oscars In Memoriam segments, only like ten times better executed.

These really are much better than what the Academy puts together, IMO. 2010, 2006, and 2004 in particular are exceptionally composited.

The Oscars, alas, sometimes seem to regard the memorial reel as an onerous, mood-killing obligation to be rushed through as quickly as possible . . . .

Although at least they've stopped focusing on the singer instead of the clips, like they did a few years ago. That was ghastly.

I actually enjoy the memorial clip every year, even if that sounds a bit morbid. It's a nice glance back at departed stars.

They are very inclusive, also. Not just big names, but darn near everyone. Genre people too, Michael Gough and William Campbell got nods in the 2011 reel, and Vampira in 2008.
