Tattoo Design

I'm popping in here because you people are incredible in what you can do.

So, please forgive me if this seems really simplistic.

I'm looking to get a DS9/Voy era comm badge on my inner wrist. This is my first tattoo, and I want it to be a good one. I've been looking around for a good design, but haven't come across anything I really liked.

When I go to the parlor to get this done, I want be able to present them with an artistic rendering so they know exactly what I want.

So......

Question to you artist type people out there.

Do you have stuffed away somewhere an interesting design or good looking artist's rendering of this comm badge, or can you point me in the right direction?

We had a comm-badge art challenge a couple of years ago, there were quite a few designs done for that. They must be kicking around somewhere.

How about one of those? Took me an hour or two. (Click for a larger, printable version.) :)

I actually have a Trek tattoo on my right shoulderblade. It's my avatar: the TOS Engineering curlique.

Generally, I figure that it's A) Simple. B) Cheap. And C) Doesn't immediately brand me as a goofball to the straights.

Very few people know what the curlique is. Most assume it's some kind of tribal tattoo thing, which is fine. The few who do know are Trek fans who think it's outright cool. :D

Adm_Hawthorne... Is it just me or has Yeoman Randi started a new trend. :rommie: I want one now too!

But even though I love her TOS delta and I admire your choice (it is my favorite com badge design from the 24th Century era) I actually want to get this on my shoulder.

It is the new Science Delta from the latest movie. I love the raised edge!

That I can do, but it will be a while. I'm not getting it until my friend comes back from his tour in Afghanistan. His family and friends are coming together to get tatts in honor of his return.

We keep the faith.

However, this will be my first (and probably only) tatt. I've always wanted one, but I could never settle on what. This is perfectly me, and I'm honored that you're letting me use your design.

You can bet I'll be posting pics!

1. That is a cool badge.
2. Holy cow, that shirt's design is super detailed! :wtf:
3. ... still stuck on the detail in the shirt design.

Randi said she'd fly down to Texas to go with me to get the tatt. I'm thinking I might hold her to it.

I'm such a wuss!

That was last year's Halloween costume I made. The fabric was from two Rubies Costumes I bought and reworked into something more accurate to the movie version. The badge I made from sheet styrene (this was before you could buy the badges from QMx).

And if I had time I would meet you both. I am not a wuss but having company in the tattoo shop would be nice. :bolian:

Great Ghu, you made that shirt? I'm with ADM_Hawthorne, I'm struck by the detail every time I've looked at this pic.

Is that fabric pattern screen-authentic? If so, I'm amazed. I knew it had the delta in the pattern, but I didn't know that it was actually a diagonal blue/black striping in the background.

Frak, and that's actually two different shades of blue as well, with the delta being the lighter.

If it isn't screen-authentic, I'm even more amazed at the time and effort it must have taken you to produce that pattern.

^ The fabric (and the printed pattern) is from two Rubies Costume Trek shirts. I didn't create the pattern. (Actually the pattern is close to the actual pattern used on the new movie shirts but it is not totally accurate.)

Here is an exact copy of the printed delta fabric from the movie. It is much more subtle.

Okay... still, that pattern is really awesome. They should have used that in the new movie.

I'm getting my tatt in Feb, Astro. You should come down. :D

Be sure to post pictures when you get it (that goes for anyone who gets a Trek tattoo!)!

Can't wait to see it -- I'm sure it will look fabulous!
