TAS-style Movie-era Illustrations?

Some basic pencil sketches of Chekov were in fact done by Filmation during the pre-production of TAS, and these were included in the Reeves-Steven's book The Art of Star Trek. As far as I know they never went as far as doing an actual animation model for Chekov, but they were clearly looking at the option at some early point.

Security Chief Chekov is a regular character in my series of TAS comics.

The daily Star Trek comic strip from the 80's is probably as close to movie era TAS we've gotten.

I have honestly never heard about this before! Obviously my then-local paper didn't run the strip.

Though I don't think the paper ran the strip, the "Tallahassee Democrat" used that particular image when it reported an account about a local station affiliate accidentally airing a French dubbed version of "The Apple". Someone on staff omitted the original text and rewrote it to have Spock ask, "Captain, do you speak French?" Kirk replies, "Only when I'm shown on WCTV."

Sincerely,

Bill

Kail, would you be interested in dipping your toe into the water here? Donny's doing a great job of creating virtual TMP sets over on his thread. Combine that with your character art and other artists' CG model work and I think we'd have something really nifty going esp. with the 50th coming up. Nothing against your TAS comics at all, they are excellent, but it might make a nice refreshing change to try a TNAS one-off at least.

Nightowl1701, if Donny was on board making cartoon style renders for backgrounds, and I had a story I liked, I'd be up for a movie era comic.
