Taking of Pelham 123 - Any Good?

Australis

Writer - Australis

Read somewhere today that 123 was not doing at all well at the box office.

Hasn't been released in Aust yet. Anyone here seen it, and what did you think?

I thought it was pretty good, overall.

Not a classic for the ages, but well worth the price of a matinee.

It was decent but not great. I'd give it a C-. If you're interested in an intense cat & mouse thriller that mostly involves the main characters talking to each other, I would instead recommend Phone Booth with Colin Farrell & Kiefer Sutherland or Red Eye with Rachel McAdams & Cillian Murphy.

I thought the remake was decent. But I much prefered the ending from the original movie. For those who have not seen the original, check it out.

It was alright, but no classic. Also it was kind of predictable -- I had to go to the restroom during the film's climax, so I missed a few minutes. I asked my dad what happened, and it was pretty much exactly what I thought would happen. But I wouldn't say it was a bad film.

As for its box office, it hasn't done exceptionally well, no, but there are a lot of foreign markets it hasn't opened in yet, so there's a chance it could recoup its losses.

Had a few hours to kill so I watched this yesterday. I agree with most of the other posters, it was a decent action flick. But nothing spectactular. Both Denzel and Travolta handled themselves well, but I think it got a little over-the-top towards the end, but hey, it's an action flick. I would probably give it a B-.

I'm surprised they released this in the middle of summer blockbuster season. Perhaps they were counting on the dual star power to carry it through. Seems like it would've made more sense to release this in the fall or winter.

Have only seen the orgional which is great and ofcourse was the inspiration for the colour names in Resevoir Dogs.

It was entertaining if underwhelming. The selling point of the story was the Garber/Ryder interaction. I don't buy the ending though. Garber had escaped, so why did he suddenly turn into an action star and go after them? And after everything Ryder was willing to go through to get the money, why just give up like that?
