Yeah, it’s interesting that in the earliest episodes we have characters like Bailey, Riley and Stiles, as well as spending way more time with Uhura, Sulu and Rand and other characters off-duty. That largely disappeared halfway through the first season.

I’ve never done a line count, but I’d bet most of the time spent with those characters went to Spock and McCoy instead, and not Kirk, but for some reason Nimoy and Kelley escaped blame for their characters becoming more popular as the show hit its stride.

That book cover is how I learned the Scottish word ken, as a kid. I'm sure I've got company on that one.

Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory is a huge Star Trek fan, and I don't think his use of the phrase here was a coincidence:

The Blish cover images may have come up when they were researching Star Trek online. You know, possibly. And if so, somebody said "Little Sheldon would internalize that odd phrase because he imprints on everything to do with Star Trek."
