I hate the goal is to create "schlock"..This network really is reinforcing "sci-fi's" bad name.
Sci-fi did make 2-3 TV movies that had some good notices and decent ratings many years ago, say between 2000-2003. I don't think they've made a good one since.
Sounds no better than the schlockmeisters who ordinarily write their movies could have done. So what was the point of this exercise?
This concept would be far more interesting if it were opened up to story ideas without any preconceived notions such as "it must be a monster B-movie." Let's see what wild notions the viewers might come up with that don't fit into any preconceived category. The results might be a train wreck but there's a chance they could be an interesting train wreck which is better than skiffy has been doing lately.
I don't know. Not everything has to be DUNE or THE LATHE OF HEAVEN. There's a place for old-fashioned "creature features" like we used to watch at the drive-ins. It's a grand old tradition going back at least as far as the 1950's.
Remember EARTH VS. THE SPIDER or WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST?
But, yeah, a contest like this would be more fun if they didn't preselect the choices in advance. They should throw it open to all sorts of crazy ideas.
