Sybok, Spock's infamous half brother. presumably he was born before the timeline changed, so my question is, where is he? was he killed during the destruction of vulcan? or is he floating around the cosmos somewhere being a space hippy? does spock know about him? or are we just going to, like the rest of star trek V, forget he existed?

He should exist, alive and well, having been exiled from Vulcan long before it's destruction. As far as I'm concerned, he's out there somewhere. IIRC Bob Orci mentioned that he's out there, somewhere, when discussing the possibilities of the new timeline years ago on Trekmovie.com.

Spock should know about him, of course.

As to whether he'll ever show up again.... look what happened to Kirk's brother in STXI. And, well, 99% of Trek crewmembers families. They show up once, then never get mentioned again.

An interesting passing reference would be that Spock mentions an older brother Sybok and how he once rejected Vulcan logic but then returned to it. That would mean we know the events of Star Trek V won't happen in this universe.

Honestly, I think people care more about Spock's pet sehlat than they do Sybok. I wouldn't waste a line of dialogue to account for a character who only appeared in one bad movie decades ago . . ..
