Trekbbs! Long time since my last thread...

So around this time of the year at colleges all across the states (California especially), filipino-american student organizations host their annual Philippine Culture Night show, which is a 3-6 hour play with modern and cultural dances... Last weekend (4/4/09) I went to the first one of the year in so-cal, USC's PCN. The play was whatever, BUT THE MUSLIM SUITE! This was THE BEST Muslim suite cultural dance I have EVER WITNESSED! This ain't your cousin's cotillion line dancing... honestly, the Sining Ginto, Bayanihan crew, and Troy Philippines just brought the whole thing to another LEVEL!

And the thing is, other college fil-am orgs go to each other's PCNs, and I'm sure USC just intimidated EVERYBODY!

And I'm sure you're wondering what the thread title is all about...

Well, as you'll see in the video links, the cultural dances are based on n adaptation of the folktale of "Suliman and Indarapatra", which involves guys beheading birds, sea serpents, and all that good stuff.

So just watch it for yourself here! Be sure to view in HD too...

USC PCN Cultural pt. 2

I didn't get the ending though, as my camera ran out of memory... :-( Captured the whole thing from the balcony seats, zoomed in max on my lumix lx3.

Oh yeah, and I mentioned modern dance too, right? Well, if you follow america's best dance crew, you might recognize alot of fil-am crews enter, and some are college based (kaba modern). Well, that's because some fil-am crews have dedicated modern dance crews along side their cultural, and USC is no different.

TP Modern at USC PCN

enjoy!
