SWAT KATS: The Radical Squadron

USS Mariner

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
I love this show.

It's like a Frank Miller comic, only much better looking, better written, not nearly as stuck up it's own ass...

...which just leaves the violence and wanton disregard for civilian lives. And it stars talking cats.

Anyone else have fond memories of this Hanna-Barbera gem from their school days, or possibly their college years in the '90s? I remember coming back from school and spending my afternoons and weekend ends watching BTAS, Swat Kats, Freakazoid!, The Animaniacs...

Yep, I had fond memories of it as well. in my case, it was elementary school ;) Its one of the few shows from back then that I would consider picking up on DVD some time

Add in a childhood desire to become a fighter pilot and that show had pretty much everything I wanted in a cartoon. I loved it. :techman:

Too bad that it's almost certain that SK will neither get a reboot/continuation or a DVD release, based on a recent interview with one of the writers.

WB Animation is too busy with it's current workload to even think about anything else, and SK is far down in the list of HB material that they'd bother with thanks to poor ratings (made possible by Ted Turner's asinine campaign to destroy his network's own show because it was "too violent," even though no one is seen horribly mangled, and most of his other programs saw characters get bent into crazy shapes, but not actually die.)

BTW, take a gander at the model sheets for the show. The artists really had their shit together, and it shows in the show itself.

"I NEED CHOPPER BACKUP!"

Of course I remember this show. I watched iit all the time. I wonder, did they every explain the origin of DarkKat? We know he was around when our boys were still cops. But where did he come from?

Also why am I suddenly having impure thoughts about Deputy Mayor Callico Briggs?

Because half of her lines were blatant "invitations" to T-Bone and Razor?

Parts of this show were really twisted though, in a fun way.

When the TurboKat was being impaled by giant spines in one ep, the way the shots are framed and the sound Razor is making in the background gives you the impression that one stabbed him in the throat. T-Bone seems to think this too, but a second later we find it's just a hairball.

Fucking brilliant.

Awesome cartoon, it's on youtube for great viewing pleasure. Always been one of my favorites since 12 in 1993, great animation with action and adventure that sky rocketed to the roof.

And Callie Briggs, whoo-hoo! oh man i had the hots for her at that age and even masturbated to her.

let's be completely honest: WB has it's head up it's collective hoo-haa, PERIOD. Witness it's outright refusal to release S4 of X-Men Evolution despite constant pressure from the fans.

I think at some point a time-travel ep established the origins of Dark Kat. I always loved the stuff T-Bone and Razor would put themselves through to prep for missions. It was absurdly violent, and I miss it badly.

While there were several eps with the Past Master, I do not remember any that mentioned DarkKat's origin. All I rememember was the ep with the flashback which explained why Jake and Chance were kicked off the force. In that scene they were chasing DarkKat, so he clearly already existed.
