Partly that. The show just got very repetitive as well. There's only so many times I can see Sam and Dean gaze longingly into each other's eyes without pashing. And there's only so many times you can watch them fall out, leave each other and then come back together.
...
and arcs that are as convoluted as they are long and this show jumped the shark about three years ago.
1. Sam and Dean are brothers, not gay lovers, no matter how much you want them to be.
2. Sam and Dean were not hunting together a grand total of TWO times throughout the entire series. Once in the first season right before Sam's encounter with Meg, and then after the whole demon blood thing for very few episodes. This wasn't a recurring thing.
3. What exactly was convoluted? Sam killed Lilith which broke the first seal and started the apocalypse. Michael wanted Dean's body and Lucifer wanted Sam's to go at it on Earth. Not really that complicated.
