Question: Can you tell me anything about Supernatural‘s new season? —Bryan
Ausiello:
I can’t be certain, but I think I just uncovered a significant clue about the overriding plot of season 6: Sources confirm to me exclusively that X-Files vet Mitch Pileggi is in talks to reprise his role as Sam and Dean’s presumed-dead grandpa on a potentially recurring basis.

==============================

That could be very interesting.....

It's not as if people haven't come back from the dead on that show... I'm sure the writers can find a way to make it work...

At a SPN Con last weekend, Jensen said that, ratings permitting, he doesn't think this will be their last season as he can't see CW letting both SPN and Smallville finish in the same year (Smallville's 10th season will be it's last). Here's hoping that's true; as long as the quality remains though. Better to burn out than to fade away!

The show finished for me at the end of S5....and I BARELY made it THAT far.

As far as I am concerned, the S5 final scene was the end of the series for me.

I finished watching it and promptly thereafter threw my DVD copies of the entire series plus all covers, obtained through FFSoW into the bin next to my desk.

This show is now dead to me and good riddance.

Can't you recycle those?

Come back in a year and we'll tell you how season 6 went. I'm really looking forward to it.

Partly that. The show just got very repetitive as well. There's only so many times I can see Sam and Dean gaze longingly into each other's eyes without pashing. And there's only so many times you can watch them fall out, leave each other and then come back together.

Add to that some wanky bullshit about the apocalypse(complete with stock footage of people protesting in India and Thailand........LAME)and arcs that are as convoluted as they are long and this show jumped the shark about three years ago.

As much as I was not enjoying it, the S5 finale FELT like the end of the series, so there it is.

Stick a fork in it - it's dead.

Oh well.

Anyway, roll on season 6!!:techman:

Hm. I thought Kripke had said Season 5 was planned to be the last season? Wonder why they changed their minds.

Kripke didn't. He's stepping down as showrunner. Sera Gamble, one of the writers, is taking over. The network is on such a downward spiral except for Vampire Diaries that it renewed. VDiaries and SPN are really the only decent shows it has left.

I'm really hoping that the sixth season of Supernatural is a good one that I'll enjoy. I think it would much better if it was decided to be the last season because the last thing we need is for it to run itself into the ground and greatly overstay its welcome the way Smallville did. CW needs to just let it go.

On the subject of the spoiler, it makes me think that I may right about my old theory of Season 6. That theory was that Sam and Dean would find themselves battling aganist ghosts who have flooded into the mortal world due to the wall between our world and the afterlife weakening for some time. Maybe Grandpa Winchester becomes an ally to the brothers in that fight.

I'd already been placing heavy bets on the Sam who appeared at the end of the season finale being some form of ghost imprint created by all of Sam's deaths (of which there were many) that is here to stalk Dean.

Sadly, CW has shown that they lurve to run things into the ground. I wouldn't doubt there will be a season 7 of Supernatural if the ratings are at all decent for season 6.

On the other hand Supernatural by its nature isn't riddled with the flaws that Smallville labored under from day one that only exacerbated its decline in quality when the show was drawn out. (Insistence on limiting Clark's growth and abilities, determining that Lex Luthor can only ever become the traditional villain while constantly attempting to redeem him with plots that go nowhere, etc etc)

At least Kripke bowed out when he felt the story he wished to tell had been done. I mean, how do you not seem anti-climactic after an arc dealing with Lucifer walking the Earth?

I think season 6 should consist of mainly stand-alone episodes, much like season 1. Have the brothers solving ghost/monster mysteries again but also work on resolving their relationship with one another. Also, it should probably be the last season.
