Supernatural Nevermore by KRAD

I just picked KRAD's Supernatural book a couple weeks ago, but now that I have seen the less than stelar reviews on Amazon I was a little nervous about reading. So I was if anyone on here has read it, and what you thought of it if you have? I'm really hoping it's good because I've really liked KRAD's Trek books, Buffy books, and his Serenity novelisation, and I find it hard to accept that the guy who wrote those could write something that got the kind of reviews this did on Amazon.

That reminds me, I need to get something in the mail.

Back on topic, it's KRAD. You've read his stuff in Trek, Buffy, Serenity, Doctor Who, Hercules, hell, he even made Andromeda tolerable, and you wonder if he can do ok in Supernatural?

"Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." That's a pretty good quote there. It fits here. You've learned from the past - KRAD's a good tie-in writer. He's an even better original-universe writer (*cough*Dragon Precinct*cough*). What else do you need to know?

So what if someone put a negative review on Amazon? What does it matter to you what someone else thought? The only one who should have input in your opinion is, well, you.

I agree and disagree here.

Yes, you definitely need to form your own opinions of something. And since you seemed to have liked KRADs other tie-in books it stands to reason you may like this one too.

However, I don't think you should completely write off others reviews, but instead take what they say and weigh them against what you tend to like and dislike. For example, I'd seen a great many negative reviews on the 1st Vanguard book Harbinger before I had read it but those negative reviews were negative because those readers didn't like the thing that I normally very much enjoy in a novel. So it was those negative reviews in addition to the positive ones that I would agree with that made me want to start the series. And low and behold Vanguard is by far my favorite Trek Series.

So, I say read their negative reviews if they go into detail about what's negative decide if what they consider a negative is something you'd consider a positive and go from there.

Don't forget Farscape. :D

Yeah, I understand what you guys are saying, and I do sort of agree. But on the otherhand, I do like to take into consideration what other people say about a book, for instance if everybody seems to hate a book I'm probably going stay away. I also asked because I didn't recognize any of the names from other reviews of KRAD books, so I thought I'd ask what people who I know like KRAD's books thought of it.

I've found that Amazon reviews for fiction are not particularly useful or indicative of much of anything -- and I say that about the positive reviews as well as the negative ones. For nonfiction, they're useful, because they tend to be written by people who are at least semi-knowledgeable in the field covered by the book, but for fiction? It's a crapshoot....

I think Nevermore is pretty consistent with my other work, for what that's worth. It's not a huge departure, so if you liked my other stuff, you'll probably like it, too.

Nevermore was a perfectly enjoyable read, even for this non-fan of the TV show.

And 99% of the people posting reviews on Amazon are fucking morons. Yeah, I said it.

Yeah, I guess you've got a point there William. I try to remember that as long some people that as some people like it there's a pretty good chance I will to. It's just that sometimes I have to bad habit of letting those kind of things stick in my mind.

You've already bought the book, yes? Then read it. Reviews, for books and movies and such, are really only useful when deciding whether or not to make a purchase. But if you've already bought it, then all you stand to lose if you don't like it is the handful of hours it takes to read it. Given KRAD's track record, that's not much of risk.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I'm deffinitely going to read it, I was just wondering what people thought so I know what I'm getting myself into.

Bought it. Dug it. Felt like an extended episode of the series. Particularly liked the recommended music list in the back.

Every fandom has it's hardcore nutballers, to borrow a term from Xena fandom. It just seems that Supernatural's hardcore nutballers are armed with megaphones.

Yeah, well, I think we all saw that downside of it coming soon enough. :scream:

Just remember, folks, a small group of people bitching on the Internet does not speak for the entirety of a show's fandom.

Don't tell them that!

OT, never had an interest in Supernatural, but this is on my list of things to get. I did just finish, Down these Mean Streets, which was KRAD's Spiderman book. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
